I actually think our defense will look good - it's the offense / special teams that will kill this game for us.

We take an early 3 point lead off an Auburn turnover in the Red Zone (3 straight run plays up the middle result in 3 yards gained) and it only gets worse. Blocked punt returned for a TD, DJ under throws WR and that's an easy Pick 6.

If there were a time to reintroduce the "Reliably Violent Offense" or whatever, this would be it. The ball is pointy and bounces funny. Baylor should seek to drain the clock, shorten the game, and see if they can sneak by when Auburn succumbs to first game mistakes.

Otherwise, how's your pass defense? Auburn will have to re-learn a lot of stuff, but Byrum Brown knows how to sling it, and he brought along his tried and true receivers. He's a lot to contend with.

Who knows what DJ Lagway will bring? His arm strength is prodigious, and he's certainly a strong runner. Hopefully he spent the last year reading defenses, and internalizing the notion that running out of bounds and letting the punter kick is acceptable. Hucking the ball back across your body to the middle of the field is not.

With so many new parts, there's a huge uncertainty here. Baylor is certainly in the margin of error, but only if most of the mistakes are on Auburn's side.

I've got Auburn 38-24 in a game that isn't as close as the score looks.

The Bears are playing USF's offense in Auburn jerseys with an improved defense, at least an improved d-line. Baylor's offense was able to work around Auburn's defense last year, Sawyer (much more 1-dimensional than Lagway) had 400 yds through the air. I like the offense's chances of changing it up, tons of QB option plays with a couple shots.

Give me 24-17 Bears.
