I cheer for the bears every weekend, however painful. There are a small set of fans who just shout negative nonsense but plenty of normal fans are just tired of the excuses by other fans. What's the line from 1984 "the most important edict of all was don't let your eyes and ears deceive you."
Some of us have watched a lot of ball and we don't fall for the "well Auburn is a playoff team so we actually played really well and should contend for the Big12 title." We'd seen Hugh Freeze Auburn play. They sucked so bad. It was obvious from the get go we'd struggle stopping the run because we couldn't stop Jackson Arnold from running. Might as well have let post neck surgery Peyton Manning run for 100 yards.
This is a cut throat industry. You win or get fired. With the North Texas coach, Eric Morris, available last year I fully understand fans wanting to make a move and hire him. 2021 feels like a lifetime ago in modern college athletics. We have money, not Tech money, but we are on par with most other Big12 schools. This isn't the Grant Teaff years where he's doing what he can with a shoestring budget against Texas and it's a miracle he won some SWC titles.
No one expects to win the Big12 every year but we have the resources to be a pretty consistent contender. We have been bottom dwelling post 2021. The honest truth about the 8-4 year was the 8 wins were against the bottom half of the conference. We didn't beat a top team. Not a knock, it's just what happened.
Tomorrow I'll be wearing green and cheering for a win but Big Brother doesn't tell me what to see. I'll see myself.
