Head coach Dave Aranda provided the latest news on junior quarterback DJ Lagway during his Monday press conference, saying, “No update, other than he felt great yesterday. We have a walk-through later today, and we expect him to go and expect him to go on Tuesday.”

Lagway suffered an ankle injury on Baylor’s opening drive in the Week 1 loss to Auburn. In his first game with the Bears, Lagway battled through injury and finished the contest with 333 yards through the air on 27-of-54 passing to go along with two touchdowns and an interception.

In place of Lagway, junior Nate Bennett made his first career start over the weekend. The California native threw for 301 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on 23-of-35 passing, leading the Bears to a 44-3 win over Prairie View A&M. Bennett also had a 17-yard rushing touchdown.

Lagway didn’t suit up on Saturday, but was bouncing around on the sideline and wasn’t wearing a boot to protect his right ankle.

The Bears (1-1) will close out non-conference play with a matchup against Louisiana Tech (1-1) at 3 p.m. next Saturday, Sept. 19, at McLane Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
