Some coaches do better in certain situations. I expect Elko is that type of guy. Just look at Napier. He's got JMU playing at a ridiculous level right now.

He would never been hired. Unfortunate.

Let's interim Klanderman the rest of the year. His guys always show up. Would like to see what he can do.
Huff's a good coach, but I don't want a guy who takes a new job every year.Youre a clown said:
Put me down for the anybody but Dave camp as well. Just throwing out names that have already been mentioned in other threads -
Memphis Tigers Charles Huff
Western Michigan Broncos Lance Taylor
Oregon State Beavers JaMarcus Shephard
UTSA Roadrunners Jeff Traylor
New Mexico Jason Eck
I would be happy with any of these, and I think that they are all reasonably attainable

1. Hire an existing HC, not a coordinator.
2. Hire a HC with a winning history.
3. Hire an OFFENSIVE minded HC. (Not another Rhule or Aranda)
4. Hire a HC with Texas or at least Southern roots.
5. Hire a younger vs older HC, no older retreads.
6. Interview Black coaching candidates also.
Dickert is a great coach, and I'd love to have him, but I think his next stop is the Power 2.Youre a clown said:DTBear said:
Traylor - UTSA
Eck - New Mexico
Dickert - Wake Forest
Kinne - Texas St
You really want an offensive minded head coach, a program builder who knows how to do more with less. I would not hire a coordinator either unless he was a previous college head coach. All of these guys teams play really hard. I like the top two.
I think Traylor is probably too redneck for the highland park crowd. Eck is 350 lbs and sweaty which that same crowd would not like. I think Dickert will be the hot coach this year and too big a name by the time we hire someone. Kinne has weird history with Baylor but is similar to Traylor. They lost to UTSA this season and UT and San Diego St.
Newberry at Navy is a very good head coach but they are a bit down this season. Option offense although somewhat of a spread option.
Lamb at Tulsa looks like a future star but they sucked last year and it's probably too early.
Shepherd at Oregon State has only one year as a head coach. You likely want more than that. No more head coach with training wheels.
Vigen at Montana St looks like the best coach in that conference.
Taylor at Western Michigan is the best coach in that conference and should be considered.
I wish they would Klanderman the rest of the year. He seems like a head coach and has a history of being in successful programs at ND St and KSU.
Danielson is as much a choir boy as McNamee. Not saying that's a bad thing but you may want some diversity and fire.
Neal Brown is doing a great job at UNT in his first year rebuilding that entire roster.
Carthel at SFA is a doing a great job this year. They could beat some FBS schools this season.
Vigen was another one I forgot. I like him
Spencer Danielson I think is a good coach, but I didn't include him in my list as I don't think he would come here. I get the impression that he likes being the big fish in a small pond at Boise State.
I think the Wake Forest coach is a pretty good coach but don't know much about him. Like Spencer Danielson, I just don't know if we would be able to pony up enough cash to entice him away from Wake Forest.
Fritz is the real one that got away. Morris is a very good coach, too, but Fritz is a championship level coach. I'm my opinion, he's already on a short list with Sitake for the best coach in the Big 12.Harrison Bergeron said:

Eck's a great coach, but I think he'll be coaching in the Big Ten soon, likely at Wisconsin.canoso said:If you can turn things around at New Mexico, you can do it anywhere.Harrison Bergeron said:

Based on what exactly? Our last three hires were two of the most highly sought after G5 head coaches and one of the most respected coordinators in the country.AC/DC said:Aliceinbubbleland said:

I really think Baylor folks give Baylor too much credit as a P4 school. There are a lot of eligible coaches that would never consider Baylor for various reasons.
I think Mullen is generally a good coach and would be a solid hire. But he's a little ways down my list.IowaBear said:
G6 coaches should be judged by their entire body of work. Not single seasons. These guys Are getting their best players poached every off season. It's harder than ever to sustain year to year success at G6 schools

Lashlee arguably has a better gig at SMU. The whole being able to pay players thing has been good for them
My shortlist would probably be the Western Michigan coach, Brent Vigen, Brian Newberry at Navy, Eck at New Mexico, Spencer Danielson at Boise State, as well as the Memphis coach.
I don't think that the Western Michigan, Memphis, or Boise State coaches would want to make the move, but I would absolutely make them tell me no if I was Doug

But Baylor would just be a rung on that ladder to the SEC.IowaBear said:
If fairness Huff has been gradually moving up the ladder. Can't fault him for that. But I'd need to see him at Memphis for a few years before I'd personally pull the trigger on hiring him

I live in Santa Fe and and have followed Baylor football for 60 years....was at the Miracle on the Brazos, etc.
Eck is wonderful, but is not right for Baylor....sadly. Beer drinker, low rider riding, ass kicking, smart as hell tough guy who no one can say no to. He's perfect for UNM, but they probably can't keep him. I agree he will likely wind up in the Big 10....maybe back at Wisconsin. I bet their fanbase is frothing at the mouth over him.
Age doesn't matter. Look at Fritz. No one who wins at Baylor like we hope is going to stay more than five years anyway, so who cares about age. Hire someone who wins at all levels, who takes no BS from an administration and who is demanding and tough.
Baylor...sadly....probably has a religious litmus test for coaches. There aren't many Scott Drew's hanging around waiting to be hired.
