Did Lagway Aggravate His Injury?

Every time I watch DJ's TD run, he walks gingerly and looks down at his feet afterward.

Fortunately, we have a bye. But I'm hoping that one play doesn't set back his recovery time

DJ is injury prone. He didn't look great getting up from the TD. TCU knows they need to knock him out of the game to win, and they'll be rushing hard.
Expect at least one INT and maybe a QB fumble against TCU. That's Dj's history . Their D is equal to or better than Baylor's, but BU's O is better. Close game coming up.

Slow down, buckshot. Get some perspective. It's DJ's history as a P4 QB at Florida and Baylor to get hurt and throw INT's, one or the other or both. Hey, I'm on the DJ train 100%, but his overall history tells us that he's due for some challenges against TCU. Please don't mistake analysis with criticism.

Got to keep him away from the bottom of piles. That's where mysterious leg injuries occur.

DJ played almost the entire game against Auburn on ONE leg and still almost beat them. He will be ready for TCU, will they be ready for him?

He got spun around at the goal line, and his left foot smacked the turf pretty hard. I'm sure that shook him up a bit, but he looked OK and didn't appear to need any attention from the trainers. Two weeks off and he will be at full strength. O-line just needs to protect him. I think he will run more against the frogs when they blitz. He should have some good tape of BYU's Bear running on TCU, but DJ doesn't have the same mass to run over linebackers ; )

DJ does a good job getting rid of the football. He's definitely experienced. I'm hoping last Saturday will be his new QB identity. 60% completion, no INT's or turnovers, although nothing's perfect, and the ball's not round, so you can't always predict it's destination. I expect him to play well again.

Great Rah, Rah, green tinted glasses. Disregard cautious optimism supported by facts. Everyone is on Lagway's train; however, as has been stated toads will have a mission. To think different is either naive or plain Pollyanna. It's not the toads NC game, but they definitely have intent. History supports that.

A good point to be made is, no QB can play an A or A+ game every week. Our expectations will hopefully figure that in.
Also, the big question now is can Baylor win without DJ doing that?

It won't be something he hasn't seen. He has faced more difficult competition in his career. As a freshman, he went 6-1 at UF. Among the wins were 3 SEC teams (including LSU and Ole Miss), FL State, and a stout Tulane team in a bowl game. He has performed well against good defenses. I think the key will be his health and mobility.

There's a difference between blind optimism and reasonable confidence based on facts. Calling everyone who believes in Lagway a "Pollyanna" doesn't make your pessimism any more credible. And claiming the toads have a mission is speculation, not proof. History can provide context, but it doesn't dictate the outcome of every game. If you have specific evidence that supports your position, present it. Otherwise, you're just assuming the worst and labeling anyone who disagrees with you naive. Supporting your team while acknowledging the challenges isn't wearing green-tinted glassesit's having confidence without pretending the outcome is already decided.

A "specific evidence", well, can't remember which one of our QB's at home ran to the toads sidelines and took a punishing hit that took him out. May have been in the Briles era, I'm just can't recall… games all come together at times, but the hit wasn't necessary. Lagway is critical to our success, injury prone, so you put all of this content in perspective "surely the toads will want to Just Play Hard".

Naive?? If being around since "1947" surely you remember their angst/anger when BU was chosen over TCU when Conference changed. That's basically historical within itself. Their feelings, school, players, fans have strived to prove their worth scoreboard, physical, etc, etc .

I have no idea why DJ was in the game late. None. We don't need a score. We needed the backup to finish out the game. Why coaches do this is a mystery. Playing for stats? What? Trying to ruin your million dollar investment? Trying to wreck rest of season?

My opinion is that Lagway was kept in until he passed 300 yards in throwing the ball. He was just shy of it going into his final series.

It's possible it was for stats/furthering DJ's profile for NFL/etc. That extra drive probably got him all those big 12 and national awards --- or at least some of them. that fifth TD and that highlight really put that performance over the top. Dave has to manage family expectations and interests against the team's interests, and keeping the family happy is part of keeping the player happy and keeping the team winnning. not saying that's what happened but I think it's possible.

If I had to guess, I think it was to give DJ more reps against meaningful competition and to shake off the rust that results from the relatively few reps he's had this year.

At some point you just have to let a player play. If you have to delicately micromanage snaps to keep a player healthy, it wasn't going to work out anyway. I have no clue if he's hurt, but I doubt Dave would disclose it if he was

But…it was stupid and bad coaching to keep an injury prone QB, who's currently coming off an injury and isn't there yet, in a game with a 30 pt lead. If you can't agree with that, then I don't know what to tell you.

Another end of game decision I didn't understand was handing the ball off to Turner instead of immediately going into victory formation after we got that last 1st down per Bennett's completed pass. In addition to the needless injury risk, Turner almost scored on the play which would have been an unnecessary and classless "rubbing it in" type score after we had already hung 55 on them (we will eventually play them again and people do have memories). Maybe it was just because CDA was well below his "quota" for nonsensical in game decisions at that point.

Timbear and Johnny Bear-Me thinks the both of you complain to much, Baylor won the game but your not happy! One says don't play the QB he might get hurt, the other doesn't want to rub it in! Teams all over nation score more than we did in this game, we have been on the receiving end of beatings in the past! If the opposition needs sympathy they should stop playing football, and some people should find something else to do!

Wrong. I'm very happy about the blowout win and the margin of the victory. Just pointing out there is a generally expected end of game etiquette when you have the ball, you're clearly going to win, and can simply take a knee for the remaining time on the clock. It has nothing to do with "sympathy" - I was Just surprised we didn't follow through accordingly.

I have to agree with the sentiment but add, when you have the opportunity to give playing time to backup players who need game time experience and deserve to be rewarded for what they contribute to the team and don't take advantage of it, not a smart coaching decision. As for Lagway in particular, high ankle sprains can be nagging for a long time, with a bye week looming and the opportunity to gain additional healing time for the rest of the season, dumb move ! The game was already decided !
