"We're in a death spiral where recruits won't come because they aren't sure they'll have a great coach, and the great coaches won't come because they won't have enough talent to work with. College recruiting and coaching hires are about perceived momentum, and we have none."
Baylor is certainly in a rough spot right now, and, while there are certainly other coaching staffs out there that are not expected to remain beyond this coming season, Baylor is the only definite question mark (and you can argue that there could be a miraculous retention of all the current staff, but I think that ain't happening). As someone who covers recruiting, I have no idea if there's really even going to be anything to do this fall. Valuable time is being lost, and it can certainly seem like doom and gloom time.
BUT, if BU is proactive, they'll have a coach lined up and ready to be announced right as the regular season ends. The right hire can make all the difference in the world. There would still be two months before National Signing Day, and, shoot, that's basically the time frame in which Charlie Strong puts all his classes together, anyway.
