Uniforms with all sports campus wide are now Nike. My understanding is this will include the same green and gold colors with all sports which hasn't been the case. Since a gold helmet was not included this year with the new more expensive helmets, my bet is the gold helmet color is changing somewhat or the final decision on the color was not made at the time the new helmets were ordered.

If the color is changing or was possibly changing when the new helmets were ordered, it would be a waste of money ordering the new helmets with the gold color used under the previous regime.
Now that you mention this, I was hearing from a friend I trust that we will supposedly be in a totally different green and gold for next season. All having to do with the Nike contract and unifying the sports. Don't know if this is confirmed or not. Personally I love our football uniforms, the design, the options, and all the colors, that specific green and gold included. I really like our gold helmets as well. I'm just not hung up on us not having them for a season.

Indeed, I spoke with FB officials earlier this year...indicated that this is a transition year for uniforms as Baylor knew it will have new design and scheme for next year. And didnt want to over invest in the old design. Yet, they wanted to add the safer helmet option...so they ordered limited colors in what has now been the old schemes. That stated, expect more traditional look next year and colors across all sports to match using a common palette.

I dont know how that translates to how many uniform combinations will be at out disposal, but my sense is that we will have fewer.

We need to keep the alt uni concept and I say that as someone who as recently as at the beginning of the decade thought we should wear only gold/green/gold at home and gold/white/gold on the road.

Hell even ND has a variety of alt unis now and OU and Ohio St and Michigan have a couple of options other than traditional look.

Buy gold ones and some dang white spray paint... No reason to not have a primary school color when we suck.

Those schools have national championships and we don't. We have to appeal to the fashion side of the student athletes to get a competitive edge. Some of our guys coming in before getting free shoes own like 15-20 pairs of shoes. For whatever reason fashion is a big thing right now.

Our new recruiting pitch . . .

Go to Texas for football and fun!!

Come to Baylor for fashion and fundamentalism!!

Boy, that pitch will draw them in every time

Bubear2020 you wrote that like you really believed it!.

If the recruits like new and flashy uniforms, then get new and flashy uniforms. It's part of the recruiting pitch for a lot of schools, if not most of them.

You guys would buy into any excuse for the Bears getting rid of gold hats. Keep it up.

It's no use to complain. They just don't understand how it was in our day

You're a regular Hemingway. Do you ever have an original thought?

C'mon man what do you have against gold hats? The teams of every successful coach Baylor ever had wore them. It called tradition.

Like hemingway, I have cats. And we all like gold hats. The chromier the betta.

Your painting of anyone pointing out your inadequate thoughts as gold-haters is amusing.

I think you're a great poster

This deserves its own thread - What will next year's new uniforms be like?

So I will start one.

It still doesn't make sense. They didn't want to invest in gold because they are changing schemes and wanted to save money but they invested in new white, green and black ones? If trying to save money before a new look comes out why not just buy one color and use it for this entire past season?

That likely means the green, white, and black helmets will remain next year. Baylor also had a number of existing uniform combos in stock that could be incorporated with the green, white, and black helmets. Using one helmet color all year would likely cause a heart attack with those who are overly and unnecessarily concerned about uniform and helmet colors.

My brother-in-law, a stinking Longhorn fan, has said twice this season that Baylor without Gold Helmets just isn't right. So I told him " It's what the kids want !?! "

Wonder why the kids at Alabama, Michigan, Texas, USC, Florida St., etc. don't get to design their uniforms ?
And let's not forget Penn State.

I know I'm from a different generation than most on this board but still.....what's wrong with tradition?
Our tradition in gold helmets is 100 years of sucking with a few decent seasons. Our tradition is not comparable to the blue bloods.
What do you know about TRADITION ? I doubt you know anything.

I personally think all the fashion stuff is crap. I hated the chrome helmets and I loved the jerseys from the Alamo bowl. I like classic for sure but i am not a typical 21 year old. Everyone I know considers me an old soul. Also I'm not a four or five star recruit. My dreams of that ended when I stopped growing at 5'10" after 8th grade

Kern Tips died in 1967.

I always wondered if Kern had a favorite team in the SWC. His death came at a time commercialism took over NCAA football.

On the Humble Oil Radio Network you got every SWC game every Saturday with competent announcers. When Kern was at the mic you actually felt like you were at the game.

Then the SWC got greedy and for some reason decided to end the affiliation with Humble (now Exxon) and the radio network.

Ah and gasoline was $.18/gallon and price wars could make that lower with a free SWC team glass.

Michigan moved to Jordan Brand to provide their players with trendier apparel. Florida State has newly designed uniforms, which are absolutely awesome btw. USC, Texas, and Alabama, have long, storied and rich histories of competing in the exact same uniforms year in and year out with very little to no change over generations. Baylor does not. Every team not at the absolute upper echelon of collegiate football prestige has adopted newly designed and generally out of the box alternate uniforms as a way of enhancing their competitive edge against those elite programs in recruiting. Just like the offenses and defenses have adapted over the year to improve competitive edge, so have the uniform designs. Complaining about this is like saying, "why aren't we still playing football games on a grass field in the middle of campus? That was the tradition way back when." Because any player any team actually wants to recruit is going to opt for teams playing in a stadium, that's why.

Ohio State has had the same historic look forever and even they have added in some weird looking alternates because that is what players want. Texas added that metallic orange longhorn logo on the side of their helmet. Even those with historic uniforms have begun to follow the trend. Again, no different from coaches like Saban starting to run spread offenses. Adapt and survive.

The gold helmets will be back. We moved to a brand new innovative helmet for the sake of our players brain safety and they're pricey. The chose to buy them in green, white, and black. I'm assuming the players had a say in that. Next year, when the budget is replenished, I'm sure they'll buy some gold helmets.

It's not right or wrong. It's their choice.

Anyone remember when DKR changed the UT orange to UT baby turds brown? I always thought he did it to hide the football against the wishbone unis.
