First of all, I am and always have been a Baylor fan. When Baylor wins I'm happy.

That said, I question the timing of this decision. Rhule has yet to bring his overall record to over .500. He is 4-0 this year but has yet to beat a team with a winning record. Last season showed seven wins but none against a team with a winning record.

The Bears grabbed a win Saturday but gave up three touchdowns in the fourth quarter and were lucky to survive.

Does anybody think this might be premature? Does Rhoads think this contract will keep Rhule from bolting to the pros like he has threatened the last two off seasons?

It seems the squad this year still poses a lot more questions than answers. And I think most of the questions lie with the coaching staff, not the players.

I remember Kevin Steele being given an extension while he still had a losing record at Baylor. Shortly afterward, he was fired.

I think all Baylor fans want the best for our team but myself and others think the jury is still out on Rhule. Could it be that Rhoads is trying to bolster his decision to hire Rhule in the first place?

Let's let the season play out then judge this decision.

We'll see.

Comparing this to the extension of Steele shows again you have no idea what you are talking about.

I know exactly what I'm talking about. Steele was given the extension to aid in recruiting, despite his losing record. We currently have a coach who was probably given an extension to aid in his recruiting.

You shouldn't disparage other posters just because they don't share your viewpoint.

No. You don't, at all. One was a terrible coach, the other isn't. They are not the same thing and neither are their contract extensions and the motives behind them.

I can call out bad posters with weird axes to grind as I please.

Kevin Steele never lost to Liberty and went 1-11. Rhule put that in the record book. We'll see how he turns out to be.

You are probably the most consistently wrong poster on this site. Like you are literally almost always objectively and demonstrably wrong.

You're welcome to your viewpoint and others are welcome to not take it seriously.

And? What else did Steele do for Baylor? What has Rhule done? How many bowls did Steele win? How many did he take us to? And NFL picks? How many wins all together? Did he have Big 12 player honors too? In all his time here, what good did Steele do? I'll give you the answer, none. None at all. Not one bit.

Now, what has Rhule done? What good has he done for Baylor? I'll give you the other answer: more than you even realize or know or refuse to see.

Come on dude.. I'm a pragmatist too... but other than Liberty and mb UTSA, the rest of the 2017 season shouldnt really count against Rhule's win/loss record. If you are being fair... Rhule is 12-8, a winning record

Baylor has doubled down on Rhule. It is admittedly a gamble- - such is life. It will help with recruiting. It rewards a coach who went from a horrible 1 win season to a Texas Bowl victory over sec sec. Rhule likes where he's at. I like Baylor's chances going forward.

Regardless of how it may appear, I can assure you that we are where we are in regards to the current 2020 class right now entirely by design. There's a reason that you haven't been seeing hardly any new offers going out for the past 6 months or so. A program panicking would have been throwing out offers left and right.

The contract extension had absolutely nothing to do with the current recruiting class. It was solely about locking down Rhule long-term, something all parties involved very much wanted to happen.

And just like the last two, the 2020 class is going to be outstanding.

We just beat a very good, extremely well coached Iowa State team. A Stolen led Baylor team would have lost to them by 50.

I'm convinced that one time, across a crowded room, Art Briles looked up and happened to catch Stranger Danger's eye, who had been staring at him expectantly. Art noticed Stranger Danger's eyes locked on him, and returned the gaze with his patented charming West Texas grin.

Stranger Danger has never been the same.

Don't forget that Rhule's own actions , courting NFL jobs, has caused the lack of current recruiting success. More $ will not guarantee that he won't continue to talk to NFL teams. He has, so far, not shown Baylor the loyalty that we deserve for the $ we're paying. Everyone HOPES he will stop dating, and go ahead and marry us, proving himself to be faithful. Only time will tell. Until then, what we have is here and now. 4-0 and rolling.

Art flirted with two separate conference rivals -- the first before he'd even reached a bowl game. Save your righteous indignation.

Rhule has stayed, just as Briles did. That's all the loyalty you can expect in a business where job security is reassessed weekly in some cases and can be lost in an instant. Employers break contracts far more often than their employees in the college coaching profession.

The USA is a free country. Any NFL team can come courting. Or any college . But money is NOT unlimited.. Baylor already had a high buy out on Rhule. It just went higher. Name the last time a Baylor Coach got hired away...

Rhule just signed a contract extension that doesn't expire until after another 8 seasons.

Eight. Years.

Now I know that number is going to throw you a bit of a curveball since it's approaching double digits, but I can assure you that big time football coaches that would like to keep their options open don't sign contract extensions with 8-year expirations, especially when they still have 4 years remaining on their current contract.

Read the second paragraph.

The fact that Rhule is still wearing a sleeveless BU hoodie is all the loyalty Baylor deserves. To rip him for taking a phone call when the coach you worship did the same thing with two conference rivals just makes you a hypocrite.

I believe he is referencing the reason given for the contract extension. Evidently we are currently last in big xii recruiting. From what I've seen of Rhule, he doesn't need a lot of time to make magic happen.

We will see, he was hardly going to leave after losing to liberty. Last year we were not bad, so if he has a good record this year, that will be the first test.

This is obviously premature, but if it helps recruiting, I'm all for it.

No doubt this is interesting news, but I'll take it more seriously if and when Rhule actually goes through a full off season without a major flirtation with an NFL franchise (or for that matter without a major flirtation with any other job).

Without knowing the contract details it is impossible to judge if this was a good idea. Obviously he gets more money and security and we get more protection. How much of each is the unknown information.

Even if we did have that info it would be tough to judge. We go 11-2 and we need every bit of the protection. We go 7-6 and we are giving away money. Somewhere in between and it is another big question mark.
