[The birds were the brainchild of Chancellor Sharp, who thought they might provide a relaxing distraction for employees, similar to how some companies host bring-your-dog-to-work days. He returned from lunch one day with several parakeets he'd picked up at a pet store, according to Copelin, and let them loose."

They were to be greeted warmly: "The first word we would like to teach them is 'HOWDY!'" an employee for Chancellor John Sharp wrote in an October 2018 email. "Please help them learn by addressing them this way when you see them."

But - for at least a few days - the birds prompted a different reaction from some employees, who said in emails that their winged guests took to "flying around like crazy" and "don't understand why we are chasing them."

Reveille I, like all Reveilles subsequent, still gets to participate in A&M football from a burial ground at the north entrance of the stadium. The dog cemetery once had a view of Kyle Field's scoreboard, but renovations and moving of the grave sites blocked the view and a miniature scoreboard had to be installed at the new location. All the dogs are buried with their heads and paws pointed towards the stadium, so that in death "they can always watch the Aggies outscore their opponent on the field".

And to think some people call Aggies a cult...........

That is a crazy story. I can't imagine walking inside a building and seeing bird poo.

What I got out of that article is that a parakeet is more intelligent than the chancellor of the atm system.

I have to say, I think it would be cool to have birds in my office building.

John "Sharp"...now there's an oxymoron of a name.

Kind of reminds me of what happened when they brought the first couple of Tribbles (SP?) on board the Enterprise. I don't know how fast parakeets multiply but they could end up with a real problem in those offices.
And speaking of the Grackles--I live in College Station and those things are all over the place.

I went on a prospective visit to A&M while in high school years ago, and the tour guides spent WAY too much time discussing the reasoning behind the dog/scoreboard thing, explaining how important and cool they thought it was. That's when I first realized...these people really are crazy... and I ruled them out of my college search on the spot.
