In accordance with Big 12 Conference sportsmanship policies, the Conference has issued a public reprimand and $25,000 fine of Texas Tech University Athletics Director Kirby Hocutt for his statement in the aftermath of the Red Raider's double overtime loss at Baylor.

"The Big 12 Conference members have developed policies governing the officiating of our contests," said Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. "It is vital that senior administration officials, especially the Directors of Athletics, adhere explicitly to these policies. It is very difficult to balance support for an institution's teams while fully complying with the imperative created by schools acting together to manage athletics competition. On this occasion, the required discipline was not exercised. Kirby Hocutt is one of the very best athletics administrators in the nation, and I am grateful for his assistance and support in resolving this matter."

So much for the Big 12 agreeing with him.

It's about time that the conference bigwigs show some spine & stand up for the sport and against the arrogance the Tech AD displayed. The real question is, would they do the same if it had been Texas or OU?

It was mentioned in another thread..i know hes their AD..but as chair of the playoff committee its a bad look..if the improbable happens and were undefeated..that game could be used against us in fighting for that last spot.

As Jorkel stated on another thread, if we are 13-0, we are in. The committee's incompetence and biases would be on full display if they left out any undefeated P5 conference champion. Period.

Their entire raison d'tre would come into question.

Gosh, I did not realize Texas Tech paid their Athletic Director so little that he could not afford to pay his own fine.

For the record, I was in no way associated with the Texas Tech AD.

For once, I compliment the Big 12.

I wish their statement went further, but I applaud the fact that they issued it and issued a very significant fine against TT's AD.

It's also bad that a former TT chancellor wants to raise money to pay the fine. I guess he worries that the AD will run out of pizza and tortilla money.

No need. Tech goes through the 13th Grade.

Underrated.

TT wants to add fuel to the fire and released this letter:

<a href="https://ibb.co/HPn18GG"><img src="" alt="letter" border="0"></a>

Also, FYI, media reports Hocutt makes $1.5-million a year, so the fundraising effort to pay the $25,000 fine is not to keep him out of the poorhouse but likewise to keep the controversy alive.

The league office and any Big XII officials that told Hocut that the play was wrongly called should be canned. Hocut passing that along to the public in a public statement was bad faith by Hocut. I suspect the "off the record" communications from the Big XII office that Hocut paraphrased in the most advantageous way to Tech were intended to be just that - "off the record." It was chicken-**** for Hocut to try to say that some official proclamation existed to say Tech got screwed. It didn't. It doesn't.

With that being said, I'm all for Tech assuming the mantle of detractor-in-chief for the Blowsme administration at the Big XII. He needs to go, so any discontent between member institutions and that snake are good.

I wondered if they were going to fine him. I did not realize he was chair of the play off committee. However if the improbable occurs and we are undefeated at the end of the season or have some real shot at the play off even if not undefeated, certainly he realizes that Tech gets some money from a XII team being in the play off.

Again I'm not expecting us to be in the ball park this year at the end of the season. But someone mentioned this earlier.

Hahahahahaha!

Ahem.

That's a good one!

The idea that a call would go against OU or UT is pretty funny in itself. But getting fined for complaining about it?

That's even funnier. My hat's off to you!

A lot would have to go right for us to be in that position...like winning the remaining games on our schedule and Hocutt being reinstated to the committee he hasn't been apart of for two years.

This mud-slinging between Baylor and Texas Tech is a good thing. Sports Hate is good. It builds good rivalries. Just look how Sports Hate fills the stadiums for Texas and OU, for Auburn and Alabama, and Michigan and Ohio State. So lets join hands with our Texas Tech friends and build on this hate. Lets all resolve to hate one another for the good of the sport and our fine Conference.

The only thing I can say is that the Big 12 officiating does truly suck.

Tech is being a little over dramatic about this.....especially since there were lots of plays that if the officials had called correctly would have put the game away for Baylor long before 2OT.

But just look at the history Iowa State has had to go through.....been robbed so many times against Texas in football and Kansas in basketball.

Something has to change....we have the worst officiating in the power 5

Eh,,,Pac 12 has a pretty good shot at the title on that one. Just try defending a pass of over 10 yards in the PAC 12. There's a really good chance they will call pass interference, especially late in the game.

Just giving you a hard time.

Hocutt really is a moron, though. Given everything that is going right with TTU athletics, why do that to yourself?

There were plenty of missed calls throughout the game, which we have all acknowledged, but we'd be losing our minds if that particular situation were reversed, and we know it. However, I also think our AD wouldn't be dumb enough to succumb to the demands of the message board/twitter mafia. Oh well. One more reason I'm glad we have our administration and not anyone else's.
