Matt Rhule Quote of the Week...

“I think they’ve embraced the 1-0 mindset because the outside importance on each game is only there if you win the previous ones, so it only stacks upon each other. But, I think it’s coming from the players. The fact that we can win and they can still not be satisfied is unbelievable and it’s hard to do. And as a coach, it keeps me in check. Sometimes, I come in like, ‘Hey, we won. And that was a hard game.’ And the guys are saying, ‘We need to do this better.’ I think that comes from the Sam Tecklenburgs and the Jordan Williams and the JaMycal Hastys and the Chris Platts and Denzel Mims and Blake Lynch, all those seniors that I was talking about. I think those guys are just really setting the bar high, and they’ve done it week-in and week-out. We had a level of intensity for UTSA that allowed this game to matter. If you don’t beat UTSA, then this game doesn’t really matter. I think they’ve handled that. And I think the thing that we’ve had to learn is when you’re a good team, people are going to do different things to you.”

Baylor’s Key Players

Quarterback #12 Charlie Brewer — The game plan utilized against Texas Tech last year is the kind of formula Baylor needs to try to emulate. This will all come down to Brewer’s ability to be precise and take advantage of the opportunities when they are presented. Last year against Oklahoma, he threw for 400 yards and had three touchdowns so he is plenty comfortable to have some success.

Wide Receiver #5 Denzel Mims — The Bears WR1 is about to get just what the doctored ordered which is a matchup against his favorite opponent, Oklahoma. In two games against the Sooners he has 22 receptions for 306 yards and four touchdowns. Mims has to come out and dominate them once again as the Bears are going to need to score points in this matchup. Mims can play a big role in that this weekend.

Defensive linemen #99 Bravvion Roy — This weekend against Oklahoma, the Bears will be facing one of the best yet youngest offensive lines in the Big 12. Best because they average nearly 250 yards on the ground and have only given up 10 sacks this season. Youngest because they start four redshirt sophomores and one redshirt freshman. Roy will be the oldest player up front along with Lockhart. His key matchup will be with future high NFL Draft pick center Creed Humphrey.

Safety #1 Grayland Arnold and #3 Chris Miller — Arnold is coming off of an outstanding two interception performance as he continues to have a very nice season. He needs to continue this trend in the right direction because his nose for the football changes the defense completely. He gives the defense a real playmaking ability. Glad to see Chris Miller back after missing last weekends game against TCU. He has got to play smarter and keep himself on the field, he is far to valuable o miss more games. His ability to fly to the football and shut down the run game is very important to this defense and especially in this game. He will be tracking down ball carriers all night and hopefully making them pay without targeting.

Oklahoma’s Key Players

Quarterback #1 Jalen Hurts — Hurts has been in these top 15 battles many times and typically has come away with a win. He has a QBR above 96 when throwing from the pocket against 3-man rushes but when he is forced outside the pocket it drops to around 65. That will be a key if Baylor can get enough pressure with its three man front to force Hurts to roll out and scan the field.

Wide receiver #2 CeeDee Lamb — One of the best receivers in the country and a top 10 NFL prospect in this class. Lamb has racked up 983 yards and 13 touchdowns on 44 receptions. That is 22.3 yards per catch! Once he catches the football he turns into a running back so limiting his yards after catch will be a priority.

Defensive tackle #90 Neville Gallimore — The 6’2, 302-pound redshirt senior has been a staple of the Oklahoma defensive line for four years now. He only has eight sacks and 16 tackles for loss in his career but he has three of those sacks this season. Clearly he has made some strides at getting after the quarterback. Oklahoma loss fellow defensive tackle Kenneth Mann for the season so a ton of eyes and lots of focus will be on blocking Gallimore.

Linebacker #9 Kenneth Murray – The Big 12’s preseason defensive player of the year has had another good season but he isn’t quite as productive as he was a year ago. He has 62 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. Very good but not quite reaching his 155 tackle total from a year ago. Murray is extremely active and just a flat out beast in the run game, he fills gaps extremely well and moves quickly for a 243-pound player.

Place this loss firmly at the OC's feet. Complete crap calls for the second half.

Win next two and we're good. As stated on an earlier post, "we're playing with house money."

We're the undefeated team at home and we still get jobbed by the refs. Unbelievable. I hate the B12.

Bizarre game. Just didn't seem like it was meant to be the way the ball was (literally) bouncing in the 2nd half.

Imagine thinking 30 minutes is enough to win against a team like OU.

Once they shut down Charlie's runs, we had no game plan

Never tried any passes over the middle in the 2nd half, despite the fact they had one of the LB's in tight playing spy on the QB.

That was tough to watch. We still have a shot for a Big 12. Let's not let this set us off course Let's regroup and go kill a cow. We will get our revenge soon enough.

To be fair, Hasty fumbled and Thornton dropped a pass. We're moving the ball and CB throws an INT

Their calls were dog**** for sure, but no you are wrong.

Hasty fumble and Thorton's drop for a first to keep the defense off the field for what at the time was 2 drives of over 13 min on not on them and they helped change the game.

The refs with a stop on 4th down changing to a first for OU, 6 different tackles from behind on our DLs all with a ref staring at them directly unobstructed, the no call PI on Mims that made us settle for a field goal and an entire second half of 3 OU fumbles that literally bounced right back to them...

Refs helped fix the game for OU without a doubt and the fact that no school ever takes the refs to task and dumps them after such horrendous games of officiating is a joke. Hell in the NFL you get fined even when you are right. Conferences need to expect better and start canning their contracts with ref crews who are as bad as the morons tonight.
You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.

The ref's didn't cost Baylor the game - it was there for the taking. The offense was so piss poor in the second half that they depleted our defense by not getting getting 1st downs.

Doesn't matter if BU lucks out to make it to B12 Championship game, OU will absolutely pulverize the Bears. They know without luck we can't even get close.

Have to be happy with a 10 or 11 win season. Hope we'll be ready for the wHorns. Ten or eleven wins and a Bowl game is great considering our past.

I say this: We are going to win.
We had plenty of time. Just couldn't get it done. Frustrating to be in that position after the first half we had, but the offense just shat the bed after halftime.

Horribly disappointing collapse but you are right -- we still have a shot at making it to the Big 12 championship game, winning and then playing in the Sugar Bowl.

Yep. And God knows they had plenty of additional time on the sidelines to figure that out seeing as OU ran 90+ plays total. Defense hits the buffet first and gets seconds before the offense is allowed in the canteen this week.

It was a combination of what you listed and the failure of the coaches to adjust.

This proves you are a liar and not a baylor fan.

TCU joined in 2012. 2 years after we made our first bowl game in forever and started being good again.

So if you went during the dark times you would have been like 7th year senior to be going to your first game against TCU that season which was several games into the season.

That play was doomed early. The snap came before Charlie was ready for it and he was scrambling from word go. Unfortunately that was a microcosm of our second half offensively.

This loss is really painful. Poor second half offensive coaching plus no calls for OU offensive line holding.
Would you please get off the crap about the refs. Hasty started this whole mess on our first play of 2nd half. OU ain't giving up and this ain't on our D. The O could give them zero help...hardly even a first down. There was no way we were going to stop them after the 4th qtr and then Tyquan makes the possible impossible.

Just friggin unbelievable. I'd rather have lost a fing blowout than this. At least we should still have another shot at them. How can you explain the 2nd half after the 1st. You gotta give Hurts credit though. He knew he had his lanes there with our overly aggressive LB play and then he just dropped dimes at the right time. I am proud of this defense cuz they make them earn it and the O gave them no help.

I am very depressed. This is not a Rhule like performance. We are obvious;ly good enough to play with them but when you can't get a FD in the 2nd half against that defense it is all on the offense.

JUST KEEP YOUR MIND ON THE FACT THAT WE LIKELY WILL PLAY THEM AGAIN !!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it's on everyone. There were some iffy play calls, but you've got to execute better than we did.

The people predicting a Title game appearance and 10 or 11 wins were few and far between....this has absolutely been a successful year by any measure.

This one just hurt a little extra with the false hope we all had in the first half

You didn't watch the game then at all.

Hell even Herbie, a guy who never ever calls out a Ref crew said things tonight about the missed PI, the overturn in the first half, the OLine holds (which he only mentioned once I'll admit)... when he says something you know it is obvious a hell.

Offense curled up in a ball and died yeah, but the refs did more to screw us than anything.

Disappointed with the game outcome but could not be prouder of the team and season. The great thing is we will get another shot at these guys! For those inclined to rip OC you are just wrong..,,Hasty fumble and Thornton drop killed two possessions and our inability to keep OU from driving length of field in second half prevented Offense from getting many chances. We move on 9-1.

That would have been favorable, obviously, but it was a great play by the OU dude. From the wide view behind the play, the receiver looked like he was breaking open, and the pass wasn't awful. The DB made a great break and catch.

This is about all we can hope for at this point. Unfortunately, that will mean the big 12 won't be represented in the playoffs, but that has always been a possibility anyways.
