Baylor in those days was one or two QB injuries away from the title. I think this team would slow down Briles offense but the 2019 offense couldn't keep trading scores for a whole game with those teams.

This. Rhule has built a solid team, but not a conference champion or national championship contender. That's where the Baylor program was when the BOR flushed it.

We were a great program under Briles. But we weren't a complete team and it showed. I think you could call us a top 10-15 program back then trending up. Which is basically where we are now.

We have a great shot at 11 wins and a decent shot at the New Years Day Bowl and conference championship. That would equal anything that Briles did.

I don't see us as a national contender in 2019. Maybe in 2020 or 2021....
Dude, we're losing a lot of players. And we're a few plays from having 4 or 5 losses. I could easily see us as being just as strong of a team next year but winding up 8-4 or 7-5. This whole conference is getting better. We're not going to get every single bounce next year. And our recruiting is not great for next year.

We need to savor this season because while the program is in good hands, we're just not going to automatically be better than 11-1 next year.

You are right on everything but recruiting. We'll have recruits to continue the process.

Of course nothing is guaranteed. Bama may not even be in the playoffs this year (hallelujah!). I did say maybe. We may not get 11 wins next year, but I can see how it could happen.

Actually, our schedule is much tougher next year so we are likely to have more losses--kinda like we expected this year--but our coaches & players have shown that they can find ways to win when it is unexpected. I fully expect some of that next year.

We are losing a lot of great players but we still have a lot more and some of the younger ones will have considerable more experience. Maybe I'm dreaming but I see it as possible.

Just because the whole conference is getting better doesn't mean we aren't either. The conference as a whole is better than last year and look where we are. Historian is about right with the timeline, maybe not next year, but 2021 could be amazing.

And recruiting is fine for what CMR and staff want.

For that to happen, we need to start beating the teams we're supposed to beat early and not with OT or a blocked field goal or a made field goal. I fully expect us to beat Kansas by less than 10 points.

Just out of curiosity, what did you "fully expect" us to do against Texas?
BearTruth13
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I expect the defense to take a step back but the offense to improve. Nearly all of our WRs are sophomores (other than Mims and Platt). Lovett and Ebner will still be here. Charlie will be a senior. The offensive line cannot get worse.

Ole Miss - Win
Kansas - Win
Incarnate Word - Win
La Tech - Win
@OU - Loss
@Tech - Win
TCU - Toss Up
@UT - Toss Up
Oklahoma State - Toss Up
@Iowa State - Toss Up
@West Virginia - Win
Kansas State - Toss Up

I see 6 likely wins, 5 toss ups and 1 loss. We win 3 of 5 toss ups and that is a 9-3 season. Good for the Alamo Bowl and 2 or 3rd in the Big 12.

Some of you guys need to go look at the 2013/2014 schedule again. It is simply incredible. You'd be surprised to see how many games our defense showed up to as well. For a recent comparison, we shut out Texas until they got a final 4th quarter TD

If I had to rank the 3 teams in question, I'd go:

1. 2013
2. 2014
3. 2019

But again, the question wasn't whether this team was better than those teams. The question was could this team beat those teams. Of course they could.

Non of the 3 teams mentioned are untouchable...they could have lost to any team outside Kansas and non conference foes.

13' team yes they definitely could. The 14' team very unlikely. The 15' with qb very unlikely. 15' team's o line was very good. Just too inconsistent on offense. Would make it almost impossible to stay in it.

I'd have to say the first half of 15 was the best we ever had,
It was. They were a top 3 team and would have cruised to the big 12 title had Russell not gone down. I don't know if they would have won the whole thing but had a decent chance to do it.

Hey guys, Baylor has scored 3, I said THREE TD's in the last 6 1/2 Q's. Briles would pick us apart and Rhule's pitiful O would make Bennett's D look great. Our O sucks. It's terrible. No imagination.

Yet we sit at 10-1 and one win away from matching Briles' regular season win total. Two wins from surpassing it. In just CMR's third year of coaching. Not bad for a "terrible" offense.

2013

TCU - Similar to this year, beat a bad TCU team (4-8) by 3 points.
OSU - Got blown by 32 on the road after the turf monster tackled Petty and the offense stalled.
UCF - Bortles picked apart our defense and we gave up 52 points.

2014

TCU - Great game but we did give up 58 points
WV - Gave up 41 points and offense stalled with penalties
Tech - Gave up 46 points and won by 2 against freshman Mahomes and 4-8 Tech; still think this game kept us out of the playoff
MSU - Gave up 42 points (21 in basically the 4th quarter)

Those teams had some amazing games but would put up 3 or so stinkers a year. And they would give up around 30 ppg.

Instead of calling you an idiot, I'll just let you consider the following (see if you can spot the potential playoff teams):

Notable teams with fewer points per game than Baylor (33.9):

Texas (33.7)
Michigan (33.5)
Auburn (32.7)
Florida (32.4)
Texas A&M (32.1)
TCU (31.5)
Georgia (31.2)
Texas Tech (31.1)
Kansas State (31.0)

Notable teams with fewer yards per game than Baylor (439.5):

Minnesota (431.8)
Auburn (427.2)
Texas A&M (419.7)
TCU (417.7)
Florida (416.5)
Georgia (413.4)
Penn State (408.5)
Michigan (402.6)

2013 UT was quarterbacked by Case McCoy and the game was played in freezing rain and sleet, no one could throw.

McCoy threw for 54 yards on 34 attempts, but Petty threw for 287 yards and two TDs on 37 attempts in the 2013 game. Don't blame the weather.

Also, it was the 2014 game in Austin that Texas scored late to pull within 28-7. It was a defensive game that day and the weather was fine.
