Pleased. I never liked Rhule, though, so that's part of it for me. I never trusted him and knew he didn't want to be here long. I think the next guy will want to stick around and I find that aspect exciting.

As long as he's not a charlatan like Matt Rhule, i'll be pleased.

I think it's already been made and it is the one person who I think will take us back to the Kevin Steele era of football quality. But, I will support him (within reason) as I wait on his replacement in 2 to 3 years.

Expect the unexpected. Which in this case may be a mistake. Rhoades shouldn't over think it, but I'm afraid he will.

Rhoades is just got himself a raise from 2.5 million a year. For that I think we should expect something good. I believe he will find someone who will be successful here.

I think a lot of people (myself included) will be pretty disappointed if it's not McGuire

I'll don't expect much from anyone. That way it's a nice surprise when things turn out well and I'm not disappointed when they don't.

I was disappointed with both Briles and Rhule and both turned out to be excellent football brains.

I just hope Mack gets the green light from all of you yahoos before he calls the press conference.

Make sure Dary and Buddy and the rest of the Mickey Mouse club have signed off on the new coach. They have been so spectacular in prior endeavors for our beloved alma mater.

Spoiled babies in here. Every other school in the world has had a coach leave them, and the first time it happens at Baylor, you say you didn't trust him. Give me a break. Baylor deserves a good coach, but some of you fans don't deserve jack *****

I think we'll be disappointed because he won't be a household name, but that doesn't mean it won't be a good coach. I didn't know who Matt Rhule was when we hired him. Unless it's a huge name (which it won't be, and usually isn't for most schools), they'll be disappointment. We were in the Big 12 championship game last year, getting a successful coach from a mid major or an assistant coach isn't going to wow us.... but it could still be the right choice! Because most of the great ones start there.

Can't star this enough. It's just the cool thing right now to hate the coach that rebuilt our program apparently.

I recall posts on the predecessor of this board circa 2002 when were firing Kevin Steele and discussing the new coach. There were names that came up that were criticized because "he may only be here three years." My take was, "If he's in a position to leave for somewhere else after 3 years, then we'll have had one heck of a ride" so definitely hire. That was Rhule, yes he left, and that's disappointing, but he gave us some great moments before he did. Every coach is eventually going to leave, you just have to hope he does some great things while he's with us.

"pleased or disappointed... or disappointed or pleased"

Kinda depends. It's always a crap shoot. In recent past it's been disappointed to pleased so hopefully, history will repeat itself... loooonger this time Please!

Im With Krieg. Rhule didn't remotely seem sincere, but he served a purpose as a stopgap.

I empathize with Mack, this is a difficult position. My expectations are very low. I'm disappointed in how this played out, because it proved what the skeptics thought.

But our options are simply our options..

I just hope whoever it is, it doesn't create the angst here between posters that you find on the R&P board. But, I am sure it will. It seems posters here split as much as the Reps and Dems.

At least this time, we aren't having to replace someone who left under the circumstances CAB did.

For that reason, although we'll have some of the usual suspects carping about whoever the replacement is, it should be based more on gripes about experience, recruiting, "Texas ties", etc. and not about who or who wasn't a "rape enabler".

After Rhule lost to a middle school team in his first game, then tried to leave, then actually accepted a pay raise, I never liked him, but he did great. If Rhoades can bring in a coach with a top O and a track record of winning, we'll be good to go.

Yeah, I'd be lying if I said I was 'on board' with Rhule. But I met a player after Year 1 and he apologized profusely about the Liberty game and I had to tell him his coach, "Snow" had skins on the wall and was good. And I believed that, because he made me kick myself for thinking Ariz State would lose to Nebraska! I really believed they'd be fine, and they were.

But my approach to Rhule was wait and see. By the time he started winning, he was gone. Why should I or anyone else care about a short timer? It's not really about whether I like or dislike anyone.

My investment in Baylor is 25 years young. If any employee comes in and serves the U well, I'll support em. But taking out $3 mil a year puts a price on a man's head. These coaches seem to forget that.

Other than Phil Snow, who I think is a badass, I just did t see the value in Rhule.

I was grateful he left. It's business to me, it's personal to you.

- I don't think Rhule would have had a good season next year
- I think Rhule was gone no matter what. Might as well do it while the program is shining bright
- I'm optimistic we can get someone that knows how to recruit in Texas. Rhule was absolutely horrible at this. And don't tell me bad athletes are more coachable than good athletes.
- If we don't get the hire we want right now our program can survive 2-3 bad seasons and get the hire we want

Agree with this sentiment.

I'm not asking Rhoades to be a miracle worker. That's just asking too much.

We shouldn't be sweating this but the short timer left us. Get the best person for the best price and just move on to the next day. That's all he can do.

Other than this recruiting class (which one reason it was was lower because we took fewer players), his other classes were ranked pretty high in the conference. You make it sound like he was just a crap recruiter, which he wasn't and actually helped with the rebuild.
