I wouldn't have guessed that on Sept. 10, 1999.

It is really funny, though.

Just don't let him call plays to end a game.

If Kevin Steele is now college football's highest-paid assistant coach, then good for him. The man has worked hard and made quite a rebound.

I suppose that lessens the chance that anybody would hire him away from Auburn in order to become a head coach!

Anybody recall what we paid Steele as HC back then?

Probably too much......although at that time were weren't paying squat.....and that was a big problem for us.

We were paying Reedy about 125K we paid Roberts a little more than that and then Steele a little more than Roberts. 250K is probably about right.

Kevin Greene would have never guessed that either.

Longest ride home ever after the Baylor UNLV game. Steele still is the only coach in NCAA football to have his team have the lead and the ball on the last play of the game that lost.

Thus saving themselves from making the same mistake as we.

Assuming we actually paid him I agree. It was too much.

Apparently not enough to afford a cell phone. He asked to use mine at a trade show in Houston and talked for half an hour. Didn't even say thank you.

Not to nitpick, CNC, but September 11, 1999 was the date that will live forever in Baylor Football infamy.

Happy for him. He found his niche, and he's done well for his team and his family.

I thought he was smug and I was sick of his Nebraska references and Osborne name dropping, but we did him no favors. He got the brunt of his boss' decisions and our unwillingness to commit. Though it was difficult with State U's dropping money like they were.

He's done very well at Auburn and he didn't quit, he deserves all the credit.

His name should be Xxxxxx on this board. It's very offensive.
