Baylor on Friday received argubaly its most high-profile commitment to date in the Class of 2021 when receiver Elijah Bean pledged to the Bears.
A 6-foot-5, 185-pound dual-sport star from Summer Creek High School in Humble, Bean picked Baylor over schools such as Arkansas, Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa State, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Utah, Vanderbilt and Harvard, all of whom had offered.
“Baylor just checked all the boxes I was looking for,” Bean told SicEm365. “Great coaching staff and great competition in the Big 12 and great location.
“Coach (Dave) Aranda went out of his to make me feel important to the Baylor program and no other head coach has done that. That’s why I feel like Baylor is the best place for me.”
Bean is the 13th member of Baylor’s 2021 recruiting class.
2021 BAYLOR FOOTBALL RECRUITING CLASS
A a junior in 2019, Bean was named first-team all-district in football and also excelled on the track. He posted personal-best times of 11.05 seconds in the 100 meters, 21.75 seconds in the 200 meters and 48.77 seconds in the 400 meters.
Although he’s flourished as a receiver at the high school level, Bean’s big, sturdy frame and elite athleticism could enable him to play several positions once he arrives in Waco, depending on how his body develops physically.
Bean is considered a four-star prospect by 247Sports and ESPN.
