BU's last two games have been "walkoffs" decided on the final play. So I went back through my collective memory (and the BU football almanac) to try to recall how many other BU games in the past 50+ years went down to the final play of regulation, or were decided in OT on a "score or go home" play (i.e., not including OT games like WV this year, where they scored on 3rd down, or OU last year when we failed to convert 4th down but could have gotten a 1st down at the 15). Also excluded are games where the winning points were scored with time left on the clock (e.g., IowaSt 2019: 21 sec, KSt 2018: 9 sec, OkSt 2018: 6 sec, Lamar 1981: 3 sec). Using those criteria, only once before has it happened 2 games in a row, but more about that later. I came up with 14, in reverse chronological order:
2020 KSt (W 32-31, GWFG)
2020 @Tech (L 24-23, GWFG)
2016 @IowaSt (W 45-42, tiebreaking FG)
2014 TCU (W 61-58, tiebreaking FG)
2011 @KU (W 31-30, failed 2pt conversion in OT)
2004 A&M (W 31-30, successful 2pt conversion in OT)
2002 KU (W 35-32, tiebreaking FG)
1999 UNLV (L 27-24, no explanation necessary)
1999 @BC (L 30-29, BU missed PAT in OT)
1998 NCSt (W 33-30, Gary Baxter blocked FG that would have sent it to OT)
1992 LaTech (L 10-9, GWFG)
1986 USC (L 17-14, tiebreaking FG)
1983 @Ark (W 24-21, tiebreaking FG)
And the only other time it happened back-to-back was the first two games of 1999.
I couldn't recall one from the 1970s. Closest to the end was probably 1975 Michigan, when Bubba Hicks missed a GWFG with 6 seconds left and it ended in a 14-14 tie.
