Seems to me like there is kind of consensus about who the first three new members of the Big 12 should be if we expand. 1. Cincinnati 2. UCF 3. BYU. Where I see people differ is in regards to teams like Houston, Memphis, Boise, etc. Make your case as to who you think the 4th team should be, if we expand to 12 teams.

No Boise (small school, small footprint, small region, huge downside if they aren't winning). No SMU. Don't need another small private school in Dallas area. UH and USF are on the shortlist.

My first choice would be boise or USF for football only and Memphis for basketball only.

I also don't want ucf playing basketball with us. We have the leverage I would think to be choosy.

May be totally wrong but I say Uconn because its a recognized brand and basketball. You may argue football but we have Kansas.

Boise just because I want to go to Idaho

Are you arguing we need to get another Kansas? I just looked it up and the UConn athletic budget is like 40 million underwater and they averaged around 20k at football games. While people know who they are, they don't invest where it matters.

Houston would bring Tilman Fertitta and Memphis would bring FedEx......both would be big assets in our expanded league.

For me the priority is to go East. Don't like the travel required out west, and Boise is too remote. In the new big 12, they'd be worse the WVU, and it's a small school with small population nearby.

BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, UH (12)

Memphis, USF, East Carolina, X (16)

My preferred (moderately realistic) 16 would be to get Louisville out of ACC, but realize that would be challenging with GoR in ACC

Fertitta would be about as welcome as an outbreak of genital herpes.

So you're saying he can count on Lubbock's support?

Nobody is coming out of a P5 to join the Big 12. For the rest: I would drop ECU and USF and add CSU and New Mexico in the West. The Big 12 would then have strong brands, strong athletic departments, great new markets and recruiting grounds, some geographic consistency, and some state flagships.

Memphis has no shot and Houston has very little unless 7 of the existing 8 Big 12 schools completely change their opinion from a couple years ago. Times have changed. We'll see if opinions do.

Memphis and Houston would be my first two choices.

Followed by Cincy and UCF.

Memphis and Houston would make the BIGXII the best basketball conference in the entire country, and both of those schools can each play some football.

I think the BIGXII should have 4 teams from Texas, and I would watch a combination of UH, TCU or Tech vs Baylor, Okie St, Kansas St in football any day of the week.

All of these schools are located in cities with large airports that are relatively close to other BIGXII members.

I don't see the upside of adding schools from super low population states like Utah, or Idaho.

UCF, Cincinnati, Memphis, and BYU are the only ones that really bring anything.

Hard no to SMU, Houston, and etc

No to UH and SMU. No more Texas schools. UH can't even fill up their stadium in that hugh population. They are not an asset. Nothing needs to be said about SMU.

What are the chances that Louisville or Nebraska would be interested in moving ?

You draw Cincinnati and Louisville, Nebraska and UCF - possibly Houston.

North
- West Virginia
- Louisville
- Cincinnati
- Kansas State
- Kansas
- Nebraska

South
- Texas Tech
- TCU
- Baylor
- UCF
- Houston
- Oklahoma State

Zero chance either comes. Would you if you were in their shoes? It's all about getting best g5 combo now. Not worth thinking about anything else.

You do realize Memphis hasn't made it past the opening weekend of the NCAAs since Calipari left in 2009..

Why on God's green earth would anyone leave the Big 10 or the ACC for the new Big 12???

There are two who should already be P5s. Cincy and BYU. Go get them locked down now to get to 10. That may actually maintain P5 status or very close to it. Then cautiously and take time evaluating future expansion.

Actually that's surprises me. In my head they were still nationally relevant. Know they just landed too recruit and ten next year.

Add those two now and actually have twelve teams till ou and texas leave and in the meantime suck every last dime from them. Then add two more to replace them when we have a couple more years of data on whom to add and start to have some rivalries with new schools.
PartyBear
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Good point. I wasn't thinking of them still being here until 2025. But by then I suspect a lot of P5 schools suddenly in unstable conferences will be scrambling. So yes take some time and evaluate where to go after BYU and Cincy if we can get them now.
Ewalker80
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Also making Texas and ou play the two new teams for a couple or three years will add to their exposure, especially if they can get some wins. Let's do it.
Ewalker80
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Also new cfp committee needs to limit playoff teams from a single conference to three or even two. Then texas gets in once every 50 years and new big 12 gets two most years. The insecure alliance and big 8 can make his happen.
DanaDane

Won't ever happen. No one is gonna limit the SEC and let them walk away. That's probably the biggest fear Oregon St., Syracuse, Washington St, or Illinois should have. Because, in the event the SEC and its media partners started walking away, they would throw enough cash at Ohio St., USC, Clemson, and a few others that would basically put all of those other conferences in our boat.

I would say yes to Houston and maybe Memphis.

Boise State is too far away.

Please say no to Central Florida. It's a trashy school, with trashy fans. A huge school with most of the students (Commuters) going there because they are older, married and work or they are trying to improve their grades so they can transfer to Florida or Florida State.

Oh the irony. Any big city urban commuter school is going to have a "different" class of fanbase. The only fans I have encountered that could rival UH is Louisville, and Memphis is as bad or worse than both.

You are idiots if we let U of H in. Houston can eclipse us if we give them the chance. I say we do the first two we know for sure which can boost us- UCF and BYU. We do Cincinnati to pair up with WVU. and lastly we go for a project- Colorado State.

Yeah bro....lets just be a bunch of pu$$ies scared of competition.

We all know that the addition of TCU to the BIGXII caused our athletic department to crater......or maybe the added competition made the Baylor University Athletic Department reach heights that it had never done before.
