Baylor (2-0) is set to begin Big 12 for the 2021 football season on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT against Kansas (1-1).

Craig Smoak’s Players to Watch 

Kansas — Quarterback Jason Bean 

The transfer from UNT is a running threat, as he showed last week against Coastal Carolina with over 100 yards and 2 TD (43, 36 yds). On the flip side, Coastal Carolina also sacked Bean five times. The Bears can get to him, but they can't let him get loose, or it will spell trouble. Think Brady McBride and Texas State, but a worse outcome. Bean can be a little careless with the football, so turnover opportunities will likely be there for the taking. Passing-wise, accuracy is also an issue, and one of his highlight throws last week should have been an interception. But, the Mansfield native brings some electricity to this offense it desperately needs. 

Baylor — Running Back Abram Smith 

Smith has started the year off with a bang. I anticipate Trestan Ebner will continue lighting up the stat sheet, but Smith crossing the 100-yard mark for a third straight game would mean great things for Jeff Grimes' offense. I envision Smith slashing through the KU defense like a hot knife through butter.

I'm still stunned at how good of a job Mateos has done. There are a couple of guys (who I won't name) on the offensive line that look absolutely awful last year even against Kansas and other weak teams under the prior coaching. Those same two have looked quite good this year against similar competition. Coaching and scheme make a difference.

Um…ball was underneath the BU lineman on the ground and KU DB reached in and took ball. Play was dead before he did.

The Ocean of Soul band is hard for ANYONE to outperform.
Saw them at a Cowboys game back in the 70s at the old Texas Stadium.
They blew the doors off.
Crowd never knew what hit them.
They had never seen anything like that.

All in all a great 3rd quarter. Turnover was a bleminsh but the team is playing very well again today.

These offensive coaches are looking great so far. Level of comp. is going to increase but I love their coaching and play calling results so far. Team looks better each week.

If the new world of conference realignment is truly about football, KU should never have an offer from any conference no matter how good the basketball program is. The s uckiness of the football program for the past decade is so bad, the basketball program shouldn't be able to make up for it.
