If we can get Mack to stick to hiring coaches we'd be ahead of the game.

The effects of this tailgate guys disaster was on full display yesterday.

So many spots (5 in a row to our right) that used to be vibrant, full of game day energy, cooking and people are now empty vs a top 15 opponent.

Was once one of the best tailgate atmospheres in the country until someone decided to fix something that wasn't broken.

I think the Brazos is an electric and fun atmosphere to be in! Idk about price comparison, but I think more people have moved to the Brazos

Tailgate Guys not only increased prices, but changed the rules. Much less user friendly. We had a great thing. No longer

I remember hearing something about this but don't remember what exactly went down. Would you mind throwing out a quick recap for us un-informed?

We don't tailgate but we park in the Garagemahal and walk through the tailgate area near the Mayborn and law school on the way to the stadium. Looked like a third to half of what we saw in previous years.

Mack did fix a problem, from his perspective, ie Baylor wasn't making any money off of the tailgating activity and he wanted his slice. Remember, the object is not that fans in attendance at a Baylor sporting event have any fun, the object is fully monetizing their attendance.

If tailgating goes down by half but the revenue from tailgating is up by 30-40%, Mack is happy.

I saw a lot of spaces with names that were not occupied. I assumed Covid was the cause. I bet COVID is doing more to tailgating than this company. But I don't know we will see when more people decide they want to get Covid is under control.

And I respectfully disagree. Come visit Brazos Parking. It's full. And most users moved over from the Baylor tailgate area.

To be clear I was talking about what I saw yesterday and usually see (note I didn't go to any games last season and missed the other home game we have had this season so far) walking from Dutton Garage to the stadium.

It's all, about alcohol and liability. Tailgate guys exist to lawyer down that exposure.

Stay off Baylor's campus, do your own thing. Bring your own booze and have medical help and a first aid kit handy. Keep babies out of the sun.

I'm not a big tailgater. But who are the tailgate guys and what has been changed?

We didn't go yesterday, but our friend's posted pics of their tailgate on Twitter. The tailgate guys tent was ripped and the chairs were dirty.

Our friends own their own green & gold tent that is WAY bigger & nicer than the tailgate guys 10x10 pop ups.

It should be optional, not mandatory.

Hopefully enough people will let their frustrations be heard and tailgating will eventually return to what it used to be.

Tailgating is for the fans....not the school to make money off of. The great tailgating schools know this. Baylor got greedy, and there's the result.

A couple yrs ago ADMR contracted with "The Tailgate Guys" company to provide a turnkey service wherein tents, chairs, coolers, etc are provided for a mandatory fee. This decision displaced the organic, unique, and incredible atmosphere that had grown on the Baylor owned tailgating area. Because of this, many ppl decided to move to the independently owned Brazos Parking area so they could continue to enjoy their personal equipment.

I'll actually defend Baylor on this one. The tailgating thing is a liability nightmare.
Alcohol, old people, kids. Pick your poison, but no school wants the liability.

Yeah, it's crazy to me and I won't pay for it either but the potential risk to the school of drunk fans on property is enormous.

Thank a lawyer.

Just curious to why other schools don't have this liability issue. I have never really participated in tailgating, but the SEC school have large set ups. I haven't heard of any lawsuits.

I don't think and wouldnt assume every Baylor grad who comes into town for games sees the world the way t shirt fans in Waco do. I also don't know why people would have designated little lots with their name on it which they paid for but we're completely vacant.

The George's tent setup was perfect for Baylor as a ton of alumni have hang ups since childhood. And I agree the liability thing is more about their desire to kill tailgating. It seems contradictory to go to that third party when George's was absolutely perfect. It separated the two Baylor crowds with no conflicts. Those who consume alcohol and those who do not.

UT has awesome alumni center for adults compared to our funeral home. They do not seem to have liability problems with drinking everywhere.

It's all about $.

subcontracting your tailgate oversight does not indemnify the College from any typical responsibility they'd assume due to negligence on either side.

Yes, they have large setups AND they have Tailgate Guys. TG started in Auburn.

I've been to the UT center dozens of times and it's meh.

Agree that ours feels like a funeral home, but UT is pretty crowded and lame.

Drayton wants beer in the stadium. And I'm good with it. It's all how you manage it.

You guys act like I'm telling you not to drink…LOL

Never understood the allure of standing around outside and getting drunk before a football game. I go to watch a football game and enjoy the experience just fine without getting hammered beforehand. I get hammered at home after the game!

Baylor had nothing to do with the George's area. They were not on bu property. There is just as much liquor and beer at tailgates that were on mclane side of mlk on bu property as there was at tailgates set up at Brazos parking which is not owned by BU. The move to tailgate guys had zero to do with the owners of George's to not renew their lease with Brazos parking and the move to TG is not to kill tailgating. Just to get out of managing it but they didn't even consult the bear Foundation who was running tailgating when they decided. **** tailgate guys but just want it to be clear they didn't have anything to do with George's.

Also we are the only school I've visited that uses tailgate guys as the only option. All others use them for a specific area & allow traditional tailgating everywhere else on campis/around stadium

1 other note is that no, most former BU property tailgaters didn't move. Brazos has always been pretty full so while some did move there, many just didn't renew because of this tg crap

TellMe,

No no. I wasn't trying to say anything about your personal preferences other than I wondered about liability issues in Waco that do not seem to apply to other universities.

I had never heard the story about the AA Center, I presume you were speaking of Dallas. How could a Baylor Regent have any input over that facility?

Never understood the allure of standing around sipping Dr. Pepper but to each his own. And to presume everyone wants a beer or a shot doesn't equate to getting drunk. People who cannot handle alcohol can ruin any event, especial the highway.

Why do so many tee teetotalers equate drinking with drunks? And I'm not pointing at you BellCounty.

I wondered the same. Had no idea until I was told that it was like a tournament and Baylor asked for no alcohol sales in the arena, So to answer your question, they claimed responsibility. (Ian era).

And yes, Dallas.

I've done it and it's ok. But the weather has to be just right. Yes, I'm that old and crotchety. Where's your tailgate at Baylor home games? My wife and I will come visit next game if the weather is good!

I only host away game tailgates. I float around multiple for home games. 365 tailgate is your best option
