Dave Aranda: "We're gonna do some different things in terms of emphasizing ball security at the start of practice. And then throughout practice we'll have a lot more opportunities for guys to have balls in their hands, and guys will be making attempts at it. Make a greater emphasis throughout our team periods of asking for that, and we're really demanding that. Penalty wise having really strong, at the end of the day, kind of account of who did this and who did that. Then having repercussions for that. For us to fight for that game, and then almost give that game away, is not acceptable. Our ability to limit that and just be who we can be in the most stressful competitive moments, that's the challenge. And right now what's standing in our way is penalties."
Craig Smoak’s Players to Watch
Oklahoma State — Running Back Jaylen Warren
The Pokes' answer for the loss of Chuba Hubbard has quickly become the senior transfer from Utah State. Warren is a compact, hard runner at 5'8 - 215 pounds. He has good vision, a bag of moves, and will break tackles. In last week's win against K-State, Warren carried the ball 27 times for 123 yards and caught four passes for 81 yards, including a 52-yarder to open the game. That followed his 32 carries for 218 yards and two touchdowns the week prior in the Cowboys' escape against Boise State. After Breece Hall's recent showing at McLane, the Bears' defense better buckle up and wrap up.
Baylor — Linebacker Matt Jones
With Terrel Bernard sidelined for an undetermined amount of time, Jones steps in to fill a more prominent role. Aranda has continued to praise Jones' playmaking ability, football instincts, and versatility. It's not all on his shoulders, of course, but his performance will have a say in the outcome.
Well we are playing ranked teams what do y'all expect. Games are going to be tough for here on out. We will win some and lose some. Be in the stands next week
We weren't ranked too?
Well they were ranked higher. For you dumb****s getting upset about last week and then again this week. We are not playing Kansas. Half all y'all didn't think we would be 4-1 at this point. Either your with the team or STFU
Oh look another sunshine pumper getting pissed about people questioning Arandas decisions. Look everyone's happy Baylor's 4-1. But Aranda made more then a few questionable calls tonight. And Grimes coached a Fedora like game. We've now played two actual defenses and have been held under 300 yards in both. That's a concern.
does anyone really still think gerry is anything more than a placeholder until kyron drones is ready? love to hear what i'm missing. under throws. poor reads. poor quarterback form. stares at 1 route on passing plays.
is it the coaches just calling the most bizarre sequence of plays possible? the OL ****ting the bed? the receivers dropping passes? game situation? he just looks uncomfortable to me.
In two consecutive years, Aranda has made two of the worst coaching decisions I've ever seen from Baylor. Last year it was the late-game, white flag-waving punt in Austin. This year it was accepting that hold on what would have been 4th and 3 for OSU, them kicking, and us having two timeouts. Just completely boneheaded decisions directly from the guy who's supposed to be an intellectual.
Don't forget also the decision to go for it on 4th and 4 on our end of the field down only 3 with over 8 minutes to go that ended up totally flipping the field position. Just really inexplicably dumb stuff.
#3 Oregon got beat by 2-2 Stanford. Sometimes ranked teams lose on the road. Sometimes good teams don't go undefeated and lose a couple of games in a season to other good teams.. I've seen it happen.

Question Aranda all you want but let's not act like we haven't always struggled at OKST. Hell even Briles all world team got their asses handed to them. I'm not going to act like the season is over with tough games against teams that were favored to win the conference. We can all agree this was an ugly game yet we were still in with 8minutes left on the 4th. I don't feel the need to trash the players. Again be in the stands next week and create a real home field advantage

Oh shut up. We have the right to complain, what we just saw was EMBARRASSING. That was one of the worst coaching performances I've ever seen. It's honestly shocking that our players are THAT talented to keep us in the game with those horrendous playcalls. I'm gonna have nightmares of wide zone runs tonight smh
This wasn't just coaching. Their DB's played better than our WR's. Their OL played better than our DL. There were apparent adjustments made to slow down their run game that worked. There were some adjustments on offense, but those didn't work for long.
It certainly wasn't just the players. Chronic penalties, clock and time out management, and making timely adjustments are all coaching issues.
You know what else it isn't? The end of the world. We're 4-1 after our first 5 games. We have 3 consecutive home games. If we go 1-2, we get to become bowl eligible against TCU, KSU, or Tech.
We aren't going to win the big 12, and we aren't one of the top 3 teams in the conference this year. Bernard is a huge difference maker. Without him, we will struggle against teams with decent running games.
Calm down and act like an adult instead of petulant kid.
I think most of everyone thought we'd beat Texas St, Texas Southern and Kansas. The surprise win was Iowa St. And don't label everyone. I never said we'd lose the rest of the year.

You never witnessed any of the Kevin Steele years, and you genuinely think the playcalling tonight was worse than EVERY GAME last year? C'mon, Man.
We are only 6-12 in Stillwater, so don't act so surprised folks. Even when we've gone up there with superior teams we've lost. It's just a hard place for Baylor to win a ball game, period. As RGIII said on the telecast, he was 0-3.
Call it what you want, but there's bad juju in that place.

Difference is those teams were ***** This team is capable of competing for a Big 12 championship if we were actually properly coached.
Apparently there's a post on the pay board that a former GA or QC coach for us is now on the OkSt staff, and was stealing our play calling signals in the first half. Or so my wife mentioned.
It appears to me that QB GB is unable to put the offense on his back and exert his will on the opposing defense. He seems to play tight when the pocket collapses & it tends to carry over on subsequent downs. He does seem to be a game manager. Why did HC DA not give any of the QB's behind CB some game experience last year when BU was clearly not bowl bound? What was there to lose?
Bad juju has nothing to do with going for it on 4th down and 5 in your own territory in a 3 point game.
Bad juju has nothing to do with getting 3 illegal substitution penalties and having to waste a timeout to keep from getting a 4th.
Bad juju has nothing to do with hitting someone out of bounds without a penalty and then keep jawing until you get a flag thrown.
Bad juju has nothing to do with declining a penalty when someone is about to try a FG and give you the ball back with the potential of scoring a TD that would put you ahead.
Sorry, but mystical forces are just an excuse for poor decisions.

Don't forget about those good ol inside zone plays for a guaranteed -3 yards before the ball is even snapped.

Dude we had two straight RANKED big 12 wins in the bag if the coaching wasn't so piss poor. If that ain't competing then I don't know what is.
Agree. That was one of the mysteries that I would hope to hear Grimes (or Aranda)explain in his post game comments. Seems like with the amount of pressure upfront a TE would have been able to float over the middle or roll out for at least 5-7 yards and be open occasionally.

Made me laugh again. We will win 6, but I don't care who is coaching this team, we don't have the talent or depth to compete for a Big 12 title this year. Maybe we will get there, but it is not yet. I will give you the fact that this was a really poorly coached game. One of the worst I believe I have seen in the last 20 years.

The Big 12 blows this year. If we won this game, a trip to the conference championship wasn't inconceivable.
The problem is that's a trend with Arabda, poorly coached games and absolutely mind baffling decisions. Last year we all agree was a mulligan but to see some of those *** moments carrying over is concerning. Also if this is a rebuild year what the heck is it going to be next year with 15 plus new starters ? The reality is Baylor is a team full of upperclassman with 8-4 talent.and tonight throws a serious wrench in that plan. Next weeks a fresh start hopefully Grimes and Aranda show they can adjust because WV is going to defend us just like OSU did tonight
Observations from the cheap seats: 1) I'll take 4-1 after 5 games 2) The Iowa St. game might have given us some false hope going into a road game against a ranked opp. 3) Was OSU reading our playbook in the first half? 4) O-Line took a big step backward tonight as did the zone blocking scheme 5) Our WR play looked like the 2020 version 6) How do you win the TO battle 3-0 and lose? 7) Gerry's inexperience showed tonight, but it was a night road game against a really good front 7 8) Aranda got a big dose of HC-101 tonight. He looked lost and unprepared with his time management and team management. Steep learning curve, but I think he's smart enough to learn from his mistakes. 9) Grimes doesn't have Zach Wilson or the BYU offensive line....he's going to have to do a better job making adjustments. Has to figure out a better play call on 3rd and 4! 10) Defense was solid; made some huge plays to keep us close; deserved some points after those 3 picks. After watching the other Big XII games today, I didn't see a team that stood out as head and shoulders better than the others. ALL are flawed this year, so I still think we can still win 7 games.
