I think the underpass globe project is really cool. I've seen it in OKC next to Bricktown and heard about it in San Antonio. It's a somewhat uncommon and really interesting feature that will be seen by Baylor kids sneaking under the Great Wall of Waco to go to the grease pit or future basketball games.

But, what's wrong with this picture of an artistic globe being installed under I-35 next to Baylor?

Baylor grad Mayor Meek saw the installation and had it pulled down. There are four other colors but the other globe referenced by the Waco Trib was orange.

The artist, (paraphrasing) "Whaaaat?? We had no idea..."

The council agreed on repainting the six globes to six shades of blue.

So many of the art set-asides in the budgets of these projects turn out weird.

I wonder why the council decided on six shades of blue instead of 6 shades of green? I do assume the lights themselves will all be different colors and change colors every few minutes anyway correct?

Who cares? Why not just regular lights? Are they trying to give decorations for the homeless that will eventually be living there? We don't need art lights. Just regular lights will be fine.

The one in San Antonio is really cool.

Its a great add and is designed to encourage foot traffic. If we want students walking to hoops games, this is a good thing.

Do you put salt and spice on food or do you just like everything bland?

I read the Trib article and my takeaway was the artist was implementing colors that very closely resembled a rainbow. I can appreciate the city saying "not what we agreed upon" and having them change it.

I appreciate Waco over the past 10 years (including this little project) really trying to up its game and to become a "cool' or nice looking place. I would add from a Baylor angle, if you are a Baylor fan or alum, that can only help Baylor in recruiting at least a little.

I hope these don't turn out like the lights on the bridges over the Brazos. Those things are the most "Waco" lights ever as half of them don't work and the others on are rainbow strobe mode most of the time. They were cool for the 30 days they worked properly.

I thought those weren't working due to the construction.

I believe the access road lights are in the process of being replaced. The originals were a terrible system that apparently weren't durable or weather proof and the manufacturer no longer produces replacements. Not sure of timeline for new system, but think they planned on using TIF finds for it.

I can just see it now... showing a recruit around and highlighting the lights under the bridges for the homeless..... meanwhile the recruit says.... "cool. TCU is offering me $50,000 NIL and the best you got is some lights under a bridge....

There are lights on I35 that don't work properly. As in the tall tower lights in between the north and south bound lanes and haven't worked in a long time and we can't seem to get those fixed but we can get some globes under the bridges....

Cool. That's not what I said. I will still assume you are bright enough to know that, however.

it is in fact not round.

Earth's equatorial circumference (40075 km) is about 67 kilometers longer than the Earth's meridional circumference (40008 km).
