Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday print editions only. This isn't a Waco Trib decision for what that's worth. Lee is doing this across the board nationwide for all but a few of its largest print properties.

Lee is in trouble, not that that's an exclusive issue for legacy publishers. I know they instituted furloughs or permanent salary reductions earlier this year. Not sure if the Trib was part of that but it was widespread among Lee papers.

I was really hopeful that Warren Buffet's takeover around 2010 along with a bunch of other regional papers would herald something positive. That honeymoon lasted about three years. Unfortunately the Trib will either need to hope Lee sells it off fast or continue to get dragged down to the bottom by a dying company.

I generally only read the Mike Copeland business section just to see the comings and goings of what's happening with developments in the area. And occasional crime blotter.

I don't think that has as much to do with the Trib as much as their market is dying off.
Noooo evidence for that, babeeyyy, just maaade it up.

People around here got tired of their liberal views and many cancelled the paper

I only want it for local high school sports. Maybe someone could spin that off into another function...?

Almost no one gets their news like this anymore and it's not a sustainable model.

Back in the day when newspapers were the thing, the joke around here was that you read the Dallas Morning News to learn what's going on in the world, and read the WTH to learn who died and what's on sale at HEB.

Waco has had a daily paper since 1892...For the old timers, the daily paper filled a need for many of us,,albeit many years ago...As Robert Zimmerman once proclaimed, "The Times they are a Changin" ..So true.

Read Mike's column to see that something is happening. Then check with someone else for some clarity about what's actually happening. If he's covering your business, you'll do well to do a write-up to provide him the facts in written form and in a way that they'll make sense to his readers.

I wonder if there's a model to bust out the truly local stuff like high school sports and obits. Would be fine w me if that was all online.

"Developments" is a mighty big word for what's typically just restaurant openings and closings.

Same with the sister paper here in Bryan. Lots of coverage locally, but in all the talk no mention of a big price reduction for the subscribers. Yeah, I know that's not coming. I get the Trib for the business updates off my mother's account ... she doesn't like the "online" stuff. My local subscription to the Bryan Buzzard (eagle) has gotten quite expensive for an ever shrinking paper. I also get (for free) the weekend WSJ which my bride and I enjoy reading on Saturday mornings. But, the truth isn't a "woke" issue, it's the slow death of an information source that's time has past.

What about those buggy whip makers?

Hey, for Waco, anything new that isn't a bank or title company IS a major development.

This is what happens when your write a paper for your own edification rather than for your market.

Prices went up.

Attitudes went far left.

And The Trib Alienated the market.

With other less expensive and obnoxious alternatives, it is no surprise that the Tribune-Herald is on life support right now.

If you think the Trib is "far left," you must be just to the right of Pinochet.

And in any case it has nothing to do with alienating the readership base. Every community newspaper regardless of political bent is flailing economically because their monetization policies are neolithic. The Texas Tribune is decidedly left-leaning and it's the most economically stable news organization in the state right now, so this "go woke go broke" nonsense is just that.

Received a letter from The Trib today about a monthly rate increase to my digital subscription …. Going to $23.81 a month.

Received a similar letter a few months ago and was able to keep my current rate.

So today I called the 800 number and talk to someone in the Philippians and I finally was able to keep my current rate (around $12).

Don't think it is worth $12 a mi th but I like to know who died…. And a few other things about the city, etc. Oh, and to read Copeland's business articles about new restaurants (and those that have closed).

The loss of classified ads killed newspapers. The classifieds were the money machine of the newspapers, and when those died it was just a matter of time. The problem is the newspaper writers killed off their own products but posting everything to social media.

I am actually neither a Communist nor a Nazi, if that surprises you.

I am for individual freedom and small government, which means there are a whole lot of a-holes on both sides that hate me. But, I'll get over it.

And yes, the Waco Trib is too far left for the Waco market. The articles and the opinion pages clearly and without any doubt feature left-leaning spin, propaganda, and viewpoints.

You occasionally can get a balanced view in that paper, but it is an exception to the rule.

I am from Waco and still connected to thousands of people in the Waco metro, and I will tell you I am just regurgitating the response I received from my own sample of people I know who have dropped all or part of their subscriptions. And, so you understand, I don't just surround myself with like-minded people. I am actually blessed and spoiled to have so many friends of different religions, creeds, politics, etc.

Everyone should think for themselves because the moment you start basing your thoughts on the ideas and spin you receive from third party persons and organizations, our democracy is dead.

Papers shouldn't espouse a viewpoint. They should report the news. Many news organizations quit being journalists, and as a result, media of all types have suffered.

the only benefit the trip ever gave me was the steps I had to take to walk to end of driveway and bring it in for my dad as a kid. Other than that, newspapers don't make sense
