Yes Mickey's, where the girls all got prettier at closing time.

It was Mickey's for a long time and was the horseshoe from about 2000 until it closed for good.

I used to go there a lot in 2001-2003 on Wednesday and Thursday they would have cheap beer and free food.

As a kid we stayed at that Holiday Inn every time we came to Waco for a high school football game.

Wasn't there also an adult bookstore / theatre over there too? I can almost see "Mickey's" in my mind's eye.

For a short time there was a golf shop/driving range there called Brazos Golf. If you could hit bombs with driver you could clear the boundary fence at the end of the range and hit balls into the marina.

At that time, it wasn't a marina but a a practice site for the Baylor waterski team. They had a 4 buoy course set up there. They later moved to a flooded gravel pit on South Third St Rd.

Nah it's just an Alt/Punk bar, but gay people are welcome there. I enjoy it from time to time but it can get incredibly loud for my mid 30s ears when they have a band.

If fact, I took my wife there after our first date and I don't believe she's a man. I'll check and make sure when I get off work today.

Our weekend routine was Outer Limits for early happy hour 3 for 1, then to JT's for the next happy hour. Then, once we were feeling right, we would do the Waterworks, Bear's Den, Mother's or Spaghetti Factory (depending on the band)

Later years we would visit Saavy's on valley mills dr and The Fog.

We had fun.

If it is Scruffy Murphy's, that building was Bill Bill's for some time around 1990-91. Not 100%, but I think Bill Bill's became Scruff's around early 1993.

Sue #2 was rough but fun. Broke up a knife fight once and gave a midget a ride home out to Hewitt once. Riff Raff and Classie Ballew played there often along with Twirling Dervish and a few others.

Before Graham's it was Midnight Rodeo. After Graham's it was Whiskey River. Saw Cheap Trick, April Wine, Blue Oyster Cult and a few others I don't remember all play there in the mid-1990s when it was Midnight Rodeo.

Waterworks reopened, then closed again and became 101 Mill St. It was then gutted and remodeled and became the Pump Station. It then changed hands a couple of times and was basically neglected and destroyed by the various tenants and it sits in disrepair today.

5th Street Icehouse was Snafu's in the early 2000's. Treff's was Six Shooter Junction in the late 1990's, and after it was Treff's it was briefly a sushi bar before it became Half-Time. Barnett's has only been Barnett's, albeit multiple owners. True Love used to be an events venue. The original True Love was over by MCC where Beatnix Coffee House was...the building has been torn down and a Valero is there now. Malone's was the bar that is now Trojan's.

Did this place used to have a red door? There was a place I think that way we used to go to, but we just called it Red Door. If I ever knew its name I forgot long ago. That linked picture sure looks like the place (sans red doors) and it was in the middle of a mostly unoccupied (at that time) strip center.

There was a dance place called the Paladium downtown. Not the current fancy one. Not my favorite, but girls liked it

My sense is that it's just the opposite. The dumps from the 60s-90s remain, but there are many more and better options now.

In my day, Georges was probably the nicest bar students went to ... so make your own assessment of then v now.

Opened in early 70's..one of first clubs in Waco to sell mixed drinks...( Showtime did for years prior utizing private club license)..Shadows was an upscale nightclub ( for little old Waco) with some really nice lighting and decor and great live entertainment on occasion.. It took up the entire building where Dodge City is now on one end and the late Leo Bradshaw Jr's gun shop on other end.) How 'bout Cecil Ellis's Nero's on Esther? The Winchester right behind Nero's? The old timers...REAL old timers..might remember the Bali Hai which was nearby on Valley Mills...after those joints closed, one went across Valley Mills and caught a late night breakfast at the Toddle House..along with a shooting or two in parking lot...Sambo's on Wooded Acres later took most of late night food business..Mother Red's was a spot to visit,too..they moved from strip center on Hawthorne into larger Caravan West space in building by Dicorte's on Sanger..Lotta fun had by all in those early 70''s !

Melody Ranch is alive and well. (Although I will never go back because they give me a hard time with my ID every time lol)

Scruffy Murphys is still there, however they took a hit this year because they raised their cover charge to $20!

Dancing Bear is doing fine

Austin's is back from when they shut down during covid, that is the new hot spot for students

Buckle is still there as well

scruffs didn't take a hit imo from the cover increase. They needed to do that big time. Way too many 18-20 year olds taking up space and not spending a dime there besides cover. Scruffs has other issues I've heard but the cover increase is for the good imo based on size. Less minors means less wait time in line for paying drinkers

That was a cool litle joint back then. Thing I remember most was playing the "Alien" pinball machine based on the movie.
