A friend who spends about equal time in Austin and Waco was telling me he was glad to hear about Black's coming into Waco. His opinion is that it is the best BBQ in Austin.
Wasn't THAT long ago that you could get a Family pack at several local joints for less..Time marches on..74Bear said:
May be great but for the everyday Wacoan it will not be affordable. Per their website 8 oz brisket, 2 sides, regular drink plus tax almost $30. Kind of steep for a lunch
I have not actually looked at a menu but good God it is $60 for a couple to run in and grab a bite of BBQ? You can get a nice steak dinner at a place like Outback, Longhorn, Roadhouse etc cheaper than that.74Bear said:

The example is a rather steep lunch. OTOH, you can get a brisket sandwich, chips and a drink for $14.50. Still not the cheapest place around, but closer to $30 for two people.PartyBear said:I have not actually looked at a menu but good God it is $60 for a couple to run in and grab a bite of BBQ? I generally eat lunch at my desk, so I don't get to go out for it, but that's actually a pretty amazing value in this day and time.Coke Bear said:
Or you can go to George's and enjoy their lunch special for $8.25:
Of course one's bar tab might be significantly higher.

I have never tried it but has anyone ever tried that hole in the wall that has been there forever on about 6th and clay? Mamas and Papas I think is the name?

We went tonight. The food was amazing. It was a really comfortable level of crowded. The line moved quickly, the tables were 75% full or so. We went to celebrate a family occasion, but I was shocked at how many Waco people were out dropping that kind of money on a Sunday evening dinner.

Are the servings large? The portions at Guess seem kind of small to me.

My brisket was not great, maybe bad day, I'll try again. It wasn't bad, just slightly better than Rudy's. Can someone remind me how they are related to Black's in Lockhart? I had heard skmewhere they were. blacks was always my favorite but haven't been in several years now.
I still think Guess has the highest highs for brisket, but inconsistency is a problem. Can be better an can be worse than the top competitors in town. I like their sides better than what I had at Terry Black's too where I had beans (nondescript) and creamed corn (strangely sweet, honey?).

Random thought after reading some posts on the football board.... Didn't we have a basketball player named Terry Black back around 98-2000 or so? This would have been a perfect NIL deal for him back in the day
