I may need to consider moving back to Waco.
I would agree. Went there last night, I like that we have some higher end stuff in Waco, but nothing knocked my socks off. Pretty solid wine menu, fairly limited entree selection, steak was fine but honestly more akin to Saltgrass quality rather than 135 Prime.baylrballa said:

Oh, its definitely not a steakhouse, but the food is awesome for the price while still offering some higher-end fare.1outawayBear said:
I thought la bottega was a pizza and sandwich only which is why I have not been. Their menu does not show any steaks?

- Wife Started with a spicy margarita which was excellent. Jalapeno's and strawberry, really good flavor and pop
- I went straight for a Malbec and it was lovely
- Did a 1000-Layer Potato...it was...ok
- Shrimp cocktail -- half our shrimp didn't have the tail portion, half did, half had legs, half didn't. Which was odd. Sauce had a horseradish accoutrement which was actually pretty solid
- Wife started with a BC Salad and it had so much dressing I think it was actually more of a soup, it was absolutely bizarre
- Lobster Taco was pretty decent, not much lobster, but flavor was nice
- Got the 16oz Ribeye and for $70 some odd I was hoping for something more than Saltgrass (no knock on Saltgrass), but thats about where it was
- Wife's entree was a Lobster Taglialini, again not much lobster, extremely lemon-y but, she likes lemons, so, no complaints with that one.
- Triple Cooked Fries w/ Malt Vinegar was pretty tasty, although a mistake to order after the 1000-Layer potato from earlier (thats on me)
- I got Key Lime Creme Brulee, it was pretty good,
- Wife got a Cheesecake Tart. The crust on the tart was so hard that each time she tried to spit it in half to get an edible chunk it sounded like a starter's pistol, it was so wildly overdone and hard.
I would not put it above 135 Prime, and probably not even Diamondbacks (although I haven't been there in a couple years). I'd probably have it at #3 in town.
That said, if y'all aren't hitting up La Bottega...you are missing out. That place is the bomb for the price. And 1/2 priced bottles during happy hour (until 6:30), that place is quickly becoming a favorite.
I need this in my life.SteamedHams said:I got Key Lime Creme Brulee, it was pretty good,

Been busy and out of town, finally getting to get out to the burbs to try this place on Saturday. So far based on feedback here I'm getting the shrimp toast and strawberry margarita.
I'm in agreement with loanbear. Wife had steak and I had the tomahawk chop. Both were pretty good but not what I would call excellent. Not up to what I have had at places like Morton's or other similar higher-end type places. Service was slow and some of the sides were a little on the "skimpy" side - particularly for sharing.loanbear said:
Went tonight and left disappointed. My wife's filet was good but nothing exceptional. I had the tomahawk pork chop. Flavor was good but it was overcooked and borderline dry. The fries, apotite potatoes and Mac and cheese were good not great. Apps were the best thing. Shrimp toast was awesome and cooked perfectly. Spicy tuna with crispy rice was pretty good along with the crab stuffed squash blossoms.
Ambiance is really nice, service really needs improvement. Our sides came out 5 minutes before our entrees, have to ask for water refills. I could go on about the service. Just not at all a fine dining or nice dining experience. Will give them a couple of months to see if they can figure it out, but I would predict them going out of business if things don't seriously improve. To many other upper/fine dining places to choose from that are superior at this point.
