Went last night with my family. Sat in one of the cool rounded blue leather booths. The place looks great.

But, the food is incredibly mediocre. Between us, we had birria tacos, flautas, and fajitas. Nothing was really good. Birria is supposed to be crispy on the outside. These were soft like they threw them on a griddle and soaked them in birria sauce. Flautas were crazy bland. Honestly, not sure what my wife was expecting. Fajitas were good but can name 10 places in Waco with better fajitas.

Was really looking forward to Jorge's. But, this trip was a disappointment.

I've been wondering about the people here who said it was the best fajitas they've ever had. Have they had the original ninfas in Houston? Original el tiempo?
I've been to El Tiempo, and to Javier's in Dallas. I said the fajitas I had that night were as good.

There are not 10 places in Waco that have good fajitas, let alone 10 better than the ones I had at Jorge's.

I was thinking "holy smokes 10 places in Waco alone!?" I've tried nearly every fajitas in Waco all were sub par

It was hyperbole. Had high expectations and it was a letdown.

Went to Roberto's last night. Had the Original Carne Asada burrito with guac (next time I'll try the Cali)

It was really good. Tortillas were incredibly original. Some of the best I've had in Waco.

Thanks for the recommendation.

One Jorge's criticism I had is that the glasses are not see-through, so our waitress(es) never had any idea if we were out of water or not. Consequently, we would wait longer than what I'd consider normal for a higher end place on refills.
Went Saturday night, and even the waitstaff made the same comment. But the teenager going around refilling glasses came by frequently, so every time he walked by we had him top us off.

Service was a bit slow, but we were dining with friends and in no hurry, so we didn't really mind. Might have a different take if it was just the wife and I out for a less leisurely bite of dinner. Kyle stopped by and visited for about 5 minutes or so and gave us a background on their concept development process. He did the same at several other tables around us.

The four of us at dinner all commented that we were violating cardinal rule #1 of dining out in Waco by not waiting 60-90 days for the initial furor to die down, but it was fine. They were crowded but seated folks fairly quickly. And there were several tables of 10-12 dining as well.

One other observation: other than Easter/Mother's Day/Thanksgiving at Ridgewood, I saw the most people I knew all dining at the same restaurant in Waco since I was a little kid going to the Piccadilly at Lake Air Mall (when it was one of only 4-5 places to go out to dinner in town).

Piccadilly.... nice memory association with that

Kids were out of town at grandparents, so wife got us reservations for Jorge's.
We had the dip board, which all three we chose were excellent. She ordered the chicken a la brasa, and it was really flavorful and delicious. I had the Del Mar enchiladas and they were fantastic.
I'll echo a lot of the others on here about the size of the glassesbut we did have several coming through to refill fairly often.
We will go back. I'm eager to try other things on the menu too.

Finally popped into Jorge's for lunch.

Still plan to go back for dinner with bigger dishes and drinks and such, as I did go at a weird time.

But pretty unimpressed. ceviche was sloppy, bland and bad fish at the same time.
Tacos were fine, but nothing elevated. Rice was very solid though.
Salad drowned in dressing with again very blah presentation.

Definitely didn't stand out among Waco restaurants. Which I was hoping for.

Cultura Mia is now offering weekend breakfast as of this weekend. It was fantastic with cafe de olla and chilaquiles (three different types in fact)

What time do they open? I checked Google and their website and it doesn't mention earlier hours nor breakfast. I am excited to try their chilaquiles

I'm not 100% sure, the wife said get in the car and I obliged. It's such a new change that the hours on the door haven't been altered.

Has anyone tried the To-Go service for Jorge's? Curious to hear what that's like

Finally got to Jorge's and enjoyed it very much, though there were some bumps.

Had a reservation made a week prior. Checked in on arrival, watched 5 tables walk in and be seated and finally reminded them we were there, they then asked 2 more times for name and after about 15 min were seated. That part was less than satisfactory.

We ordered 3 drinks and the Trio. I had the trio at hetcho earlier in the week and there was no comparison, Jorge's was far superior imo. Rest of party of their drinks but mine didn't make it. Server came by twice to find out if it had magically appeared, it hadn't. She believed someone else had nabbed it as bartender insisted he was current on tickets but I had no drink. This was more than I needed to know, I asked if i needed to change my order. Finally, I got my drink, Mexican Margarita on rock, served in shaker at table.

Everyone enjoyed their food, there was fish, tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, and everyone liked the corn.

We will definitely be back, maybe not on a Saturday evening.

Ate a California burrito yesterday at Roberto's after "Meet The Bears" based upon the suggestions of this thread. Delicious!

I have eaten at Roberto's multiple times. The carne asada is good, not the best I have had. That would be at Lazarus in Austin. They put a lot of sour cream on top of their chimichangas so be prepared if you order one. I usually get tacos there.

I finally went to Jorge's for lunch after church yesterday. I really liked it too. I had the mahi mahi, my son had the cilantro lime snapper, and my wife had the green chile chicken soup. All were delicious. Also, I felt like they it was a good bargain for what I got. The fish plates cost only $19 apiece. My only complaint is that the drink glasses needed to be bigger. They use smaller glasses which require more refills. Larger glasses would make the staff faster in other areas and would not make me ask for as many refills when my glass got empty. I feel like I am nitpicking though because I plan to go back regularly.

My complaint with Roberto's was that I was grossed out by them not using gloves when making the burritos. Something about a dude running his hands through his hair and then wrapping a burrito tight made me walkout before ordering.

But, yeah I totally get that happens at way more places than I want to think about.

picked up jorges this weekend and it was great other them still not having a to go option and having to order at the bar and then put it all away by myself creating a huge mess and pile of dishes

Ate at jorges for the first time, the guac was super Pedestrian being able to get chicharrones for dipping was cool as I dont eat flour or corn. The salsa was good, the queso blanco was good. The beans has a weird flavor I did not enjoy, too much chili powder/cummin or both..

The bacon wrapped shrimp was very enjoyable but the chicken fajita meat was dry.

Server was very attentive, the glasses are still small.

I don't think it's the end all, be all, but the steak fajitas are the best I've ever had, anywhere.

Their beans are borracho beans which is probably the cause for the taste. Borracho beans are similar to charro beans, except they are cooked in beer.

Went to Jorge's today with my wife and oldest daughter. Overall it was decent, but we put it in the Waco Mexican second tier and not in the top tier with Cultura Mia and Mezcaleria.

Salsas are good. Verde was actually really good and would be great on some chilaquiles. They should add that plate to menu with carne asada and egg. I would order that all day.

Trio was good with guacamole, queso blanco and elote. Chicharrn was ok, but we were disappointed they were not fresh large ones like in Mexico City when you order guacamole.

Daughter got the mole brisket and said it was just ok. In all fairness we were in McAllen last week and her great-aunt made some of the best chicken mole we have ever had…she added a little carmel to the mole mix in pic.

Wife got grilled shrimp tacos and said they were ok

I got the Jalapeño Filet fajitas. Not sure I would call them fajitas versus just some really well cook and tender tenderloin. I wish it had more Mexican spices on it. Since it was more of a steak plate I kept comparing it to Sonora Grill and Sylvestre which have richer flavors.

Black borracho beans were edible. Rice was good…my daughter felt like it was more Mediterranean than Mexican and she likes those flavors so she was happy. Wife and daughter got corn tortillas and said they didn't have a depth of flavor they prefer. I had flour and they were thin so I just at the meat separately.

We went at 2pm and there were a lot of empty tables so no wait and service was good.

We went to Roberto's today for lunch to give it a try. I am sad to say it was very underwhelming. The tables had not been bused and all of them were dirty, trash was overflowing, bathroom looked like a truck stop that never gets cleaned, and the food took 30 minutes to come out. Wife had the #1: taco and cheese enchilada; I had the #6: chicken taco and chicken burrito. We had chips and guac as well. The chips and guac were more like chips spread on a plate with slightly warmed grated cheese and a kind of "avocado puree" or baby food spread all over. I liked the texture of the taco shells, but the tacos themselves and my burrito was mediocre at best. Maybe we didn't order the right items?

I was really hoping to like this place. I am normally pretty easy to please regarding restaurants. This was just a bad experience at a new but very dirty place to eat. So sorry to report!

Does "Jorge's" serve purple burritos and other TCU-friendly fare?
No, and you won't find too many businesses in Waco more integrated and supportive of Baylor athletics than the Citrano family either.
Except for their kid that runs the Hewit location and revels in Baylor losses to TCU.
Belive it or not, he also sponsors a ton of Baylor Athletics stuff through that location. Yes he's a TCU alum. Yes he'll gloat and goad about his toads, but he's still a big supporter of Baylor as well.

To each.
He went to TCU but understands Baylor butters his bread. And daddy still runs the big show - who while not a BU alum, he's lived in Waco for like 40 years. I think dad has given quite a bit to Baylor over the years.

I disagree he understands Baylor butters his bread or he would not have made that post

His actions are speaking so loud I can't hear his words
