We have a squirrel in our attic. I went through and sealed up everything and set traps. Well, it literally busted a hole through my soffit. It has broken one trap and has sprung two others without getting caught. It has now gnawed its way into my duct work and taunts us through the vents. Any recommendations of who I should contact in Waco?

We have rat traps nailed on the trunks of our pecan trees out here in the country. When they start getting active we put a whole pecan with the shell half peeled off. There's been a few times we've eliminated as many as 12 in one day.

I had the same thing and had to get pest control to finally fix it. The mice destroyed my house with all the holes they made. I'd plug it, they'd make another.

They covered my attic in traps until they finally got them all.

If you see it sticking its paws or tail through the vent, you can try what I was able to do nearly 40 years ago in a similar situation.

I had just graduated and was living in Dallas. My mom back in Waco was getting a new roof on the house. Roofers had taken off an exhaust vent cover, and a squirrel got into the ductwork. I called home one evening and could tell from her voice she was exhausted and somewhat frantic. Squirrel had spent all night and all day running up and down the ducts with its claws echoing on the metal and running toward the light in whatever room was lit up. While we were on the phone, she screamed "It's sticking its paw through the vent!" (the vent was right above the telephone, this was 1986 so still on fixed landline). I told her to reach up and jam the vent shut to see if it would trap the squirrel. She was able to do so, so I told her to go in the kitchen and get a can of Raid and spray it directly into the vent as much as possible, which she was able to do. Next morning when the roofing crew arrived, one of them came in the house, unscrewed the vent, and removed said recently deceased varmint.

D Con rat killer

preferably done in winter where the carcass won't stink so bad

but effective if you really want to get rid of the squirrel; if you can find him and dispose of him, all the better; if not, a certain area may not smell great for a while, but you won't have a live squirrel problem

Pest control for squirrels:

CapStar works great for flea and ticks. But getting the squirrel to swallow it is the tricky part.

The squirrel met his demise in a rat trap.

My suggestion is to either get a housecat, or, if you want something even more annoying, a couple of Cajuns from central Louisiana.

They'll take care of it.

I have a cat. A more accurate statement is there is a cat that lives in my house and has human servants.

I have several Cajun friends from growing up. They would get the squirrel or destroy the house in the attempt.

This solution was told to me by my wife's grandmother the first night I met the grandmother.

You fill a trash can with water. Set a trap with some food the squirrel will want in order to enter trap. Once trap is set you drop said trap into full trash can. Squirrel gone.
