McLennan County has seen a huge spike in Covid cases. I guess the thought that Covid would die off in the heat like the flu was wrong.

https://www.wacotrib.com/news/government/ninth-death-announced-as-record-setting-162-new-cases-reported-in-mclennan-county/article_564e66b1-35ec-56a0-bc93-8dfc47639f29.html

"McLennan County's seven-day rolling average positive test rate remained at 1 percent for the first 10 days of June, but increased steadily, reaching 12 percent on June 23 before falling to 6 percent Monday."

Yeah but aren't we assuming that it's probably like 10 times that or are we testing enough now where that's probably not the case?

CovidWaco.com today reported a little over 18K tests done to date. I'll let you guys determine the "enough" part.

This things will continue to be an issue until we get to 20% infection rate.

50,000/250,000 will accomplish that.

Divide that number by 10 and you need about 5,000 confirmed cases to reach a state where New York/New Jersey and likely Italy and Spain are with minimal issues after that.

So 4,000 more to go. At about 100 new cases a day, we are about 40 days away. Right before kickoff at McLane!

yes but the stats are showing an escalation in older people. It started in the younger population and now the older population is testing positive at a higher rate- it appears the young people are giving it to parents and grand parents...

Fascinating. 3 of those last 5 were DNRs before they caught covid, which of course you will not read in the paper for a variety of reasons. Something interesting is going on.

Plus, if we have 1,475 confirmed subsequent cases, you know the actual case count is far higher than that. A huge number of cases with very low mortality and only 23 people in the hospital as of today might be a pretty good pattern. Don't expect it to be reported that way.

Do you mind expanding on what this means?

That's not what that means. It means do not resuscitate. Being sick has nothing to do with it. I have patients in their 30s that are DNR. It simply means don't intubate or perform CPR on them. That doesn't mean they are about to die. That would be hospice and even people on hospice graduate (live longer than the 6 months they were predicted to live) or change their mind on the DNR when they know they are within days of death.
