Considering the neighborhood (low income) methinks it is great there is new development.

I'm shocked at how blatantly predatory this development is.

The people in that neighborhood will spend their money somewhere. Somebody is giving them the opportunity to spend it close to home.

Trust me I'm not shocked at the development being built, just shocked that the branding and the quotes from the developer are so over the top predatory. I'm sure he'll do well though.

I'm halfway serious about opening a liquor store on I-35 close to hewitt/lorena. The closest one to Lorena is a garage barn in bruceville-eddy or twin liquors all the way to valley mills drive.

Could Waco support a full size Total Wine or big Specs?

You'd need to check city ordinances. Don't think Hewitt or Lorena allow sales. I know Speegleville still won't.

I'd love to see a Total Wine in town. I think it would do incredibly well.

They don't. I looked into this about 10 years ago. I investigated opening a liquor store in the strip center in the Wal-Mart parking lot at Chapel and Hewitt Drive. I went to the TABC to get the paperwork. I studied the rules and laws with respect to distance away from schools. (The only issue might have been with the distance to the ACL Day Care just up the road on Chapel.)

IIFC, one had to get a petition signed with X number of signatures from residents in the area to even get it on the ballot. Then of course the vote. I believe that there were enough in the area that would have supported it (or least not opposed it.)

I spoke with a friend that owns Waco Bar Supply about the ideal and support. He was all for it, but he stated that the second the law passed, a large chain, like Twin Liquors, would come in a monopolize the area.

I sadly realized that my pockets were deep enough to battle with them. Needless to say, I still drive down Waco Drive or Bosque to buy my Crown.
