This is why I had a hard time with Beard going to Texas. He's a good guy, and likable… Texas is evil and easy to hate

Beard is one of the good ones. He and Drew clearly have a lot of respect for one another.

Yeah, I think that is true. This reminds me of that time a few years ago when Beard was absolutely furious when one of his TT players dunked the ball as time was expiring in a blowout win against BU. Beard was on his way to shake Drew's hand, and he immediately made that player come over and apologize to Drew.

I liked Mack Brown, still had no trouble at all hating Texas. Not the least little bit.

I am a faint echo of CorsicanaBear on this matter. My dislike of Texas has been and will continue to be intense.
I think that the only time that I have ever pulled for them was on a cold, wintry day in 1974 when they played A&M and a victory would secure our first conference football championship in fifty years, as indeed it did.

This press conference, however, which I watched in its entirety, affected my opinion of Beard. He was a standup man in this interview, and particularly when he discussed his respect for Drew, even to the extent of saying that he was probably the man his mother had wanted him to be. This was in reference to his authenticity as a Christian man whose prayer filled life was something that his mother hoped would be his habitual practice, and something that he acknowledged was a deficiency. I take no position on matters so personal as this, but for Beard to say that was touching and, quite frankly, surprising. I cannot help but think more highly of him as a man, if not as a coach. It's all good.
