Last night we only played 8 and Bonner did not play. Flagler and George got a lot more playing time. Love also got more minutes. We are now a dangerous team. Beatable, but dangerous.

I think that 8th rotation spot will toggle between Lohner and Bonner, depending on situational matchups. The other night Lohner played only 5 minutes.Tech is a bigger team so Lohner played more and Bonner DNP. My guess is against smaller, quicker teams Bonner will be back to his usual 12-16 minute role again.

Agree but need to be smarter with shot selection at times....from around the 10 minute mark to the 3 minute mark int he 2nd half we scored a whopping 5-6 points. We at times give up on driving 7-9 footers to kick out for a 3 pointer. Take what the defense provides....

They played much better against a decent TT team...

Good info. I think someone said the other night he was on the bench with an ice pack on his knee?

He hasn't played in three halves now. I was wondering if maybe he was in the dog house. But an injury would make more sense.

Given how ineffective Love was last night, I would have figured we'd have seen Dale for a few minutes if he was available.

Think it might have been injury but either way I prefer this line up. Love wasn't great and still lacks mobility but has some offensive skills. Bonner isn't a good enough defender to make up for the bottleneck it creates on offense.

Still think he will get minutes to spell our guards but we need to basically run one of Flag or George on the floor at all times. Preferably two of Flag/George/Cryer are on the floor most of the game. Get the sub patterns on and this team could turn the corner. Bridges is playing really well now. With him and Josh progressing this will be a formidable team to deal with.

I think it really depends. Against TCU, Love was giving us nothing on O, and Bonner was the only defender who could slow down their PG.

We lost several rebounds on defense and Drew put in Lohner. That nonsense ended with his presence. The guy is not a world-class shooter but he can fight for a rebound and muscle up the other team and he can score inside even when fouled.

When we need defense and rebounds get Lohner in the game. When we need points, maybe he sits. It's situational but I think he has a lot of value on this team.

When Love plays poorly on offense, and he's had several games where he has, he's a far less useful bench player than Bonner because he can't handle the ball or play defense.

Langston will be a good player for us in time, but right now he's a guy you ride when he's hot and bench when he's not.

Continue to disagree on this. Unfortunately the offense bottles up with Bonner. The spacing gets tight and there is no gravity there. Love on the wing opens up the floor. The other teams cheat and help hard off Bonner consistently.

I didn't see it mentioned in this thread, but I liked the way Bridges played last night.

Love's a much bigger scoring threat. But when he's going 1 of 7 from the field, he's useless because he brings literally nothing else to the floor at this point.

Bonner shouldn't play more than 15-20 minutes a game, but he's a better penetrator than everyone but George and Flagler, is at worst our second-best passer and is by far our best perimeter defender. He's not going to score, but if you let him run the point for the handful of minutes he plays every game, a role he's proven capable of handling, that lessens the expectation or need for scoring.

For some reason, and folks around here know better than I, Love does not appear to be in "the groove".

There maybe some lingering effects from his injury.

He's coming back from a serious injury and likely can't do the things physically he was accustomed to doing before. He's got the tools to be a really good offensive player for us. He's just got to get back to 100 percent and continue to learn from his experience.

I know you love Bonner, but he can't play PG even a handful of minutes against big 12 competition. He can't handle any semblance of pressure and our offense grinds to a halt.

Agreed. If he was a Mitchell level ball hawk then that would overcome and warrant good minutes but he isn't. He is a solid but not great defender.

Playing first high D1 action would come with growing pains anyway. Compound that with a player's first major injury and you have Love right now. I figured the season would almost be a wash for him until late. Hopefully by Feb/March he gets back to his flow.

Last preseason before injury he was looking smooth along with Sochan. Right now the mobility still looks off and lateral movement on defense is limited. Was never a top tier athlete but was a solid athlete who played with great pace and size. Reminded me of a typical Villanova guard if that makes any sense.

Take that up with Drew, who had been been giving him minutes almost exclusively in a ball-handling role since Big 12 play began.

I never said he was an elite defender. But he is a vastly superior defender to every other guard in our rotation. Flagler is the only other guard defender I'd even call competent, though George can and should get better.

And Coach Drew apparently saw that wasn't working because Bonner didn't play at all last game.

Not sure how dangerous we can be with our glaring deficiencies on the frontline. In my opinion Josh O s key to our success the remainder of the season

Not sure our frontcourt deficiencies are so glaring. Flo is Flo, Bridges is breaking out, and Josh O improves exponentially with each and every game.

Drew said he wasn't when asked about it. He said rotations tighten and it wasn't injury related. Usually Drew is pretty straight so sounds like it was a DNP coaches decision rather than injury.

Probably correct. Drew likes to shorten rotations by the heart of conference play heading into the tourney. Except this year I think probably Bonner / Lohner will split that #8 rotation spot depending on matchups.

No matter who is in the rotation Flagler and George cannot sit at the same time and need to average around 35 minutes per competitive game.
