These obscene "F you (fill in the name of the opponent)" chants are happening more and more often. It happened to us and was audible on TV during the WVU game in Morgantown recently. It's completely unacceptable to say the least and more coaches like Tang need to make a point to speak out against it. Kudos to him for doing so.

Tang is the type of leader that any university can be proud of. I love that he's having early success. What a great guy. He's more than paid his dues for this opportunity.
If you didn't hear vulgarities at Baylor, you stayed in your dorm room 24/7. And to say that God is seen as a negative at Kansas State is ill-informed. The holier than thou vibe is not needed.Space Cutter said:
Coach Tang is trying to build a real positive culture at Kansas State. Unfortunately KSU is a state school where God is seen as a negative. This chant from students is not a KSU only thing. Texas State kept yelling it when Baylor played in San Marcos. I applaud Coach Tang for standing up & speaking out.
As God is replaced by secularism this vulgarity is expected and it shows the type of students that attend that school. Hope it never happens at Baylor.

Lots of folks are getting behind the Tang to UT thing. From a hoop's standpoint, he'd do great there. From a culture standpoint, the Madalyn Murray O'Hare wing of UT would be out of their minds with his outspoken faith.

Jerome Tang just stopped the F KU chant by getting on the mic & starting a K-S-U chant. Ending his message with this: "I told ya we were going to get you a court storming. From here on out, expect to win."

I really don't think students are much different regardless of where you look for them, outside of a few ultra-conservative schools (Baylor is not one of those), the academies (because of what you are committing to), and possible a few others.Space Cutter said:

This is the thing that got me about the scandal a few years ago. It seemed that the Baylor administration was intent on portraying to parents that Baylor was safer and Baylor had only good people as students in relation to other school alternatives. They did this in part by continuing to report zero or very, very low incidents of sexual assault related to students, on or off campus. They lied.
They seemed to want to portray Baylor as some type of glorified Sunday School where there were no bad guys, everyone was as straight as an arrow, and everyone portrayed the ideal student example everywhere they went....and oh by the way, never went to any of those "bad" places in Waco. Well, the lies didn't work and we all paid dearly for it. Baylor students are no better or no worse than students you will find at just about every public and private school you want to visit. Why? Because humans are students at Baylor. And humans are going to be humans, both the good ones and the bad ones.
Now, a school can choose to crack down on certain behaviors which may suppress some types of behavior, but the students anywhere have the same aversion as those elsewhere. They may have picked it up in high school, at home, or wherever, but coming to Baylor is not going to kill the aversion. Some schools choose to crack down, some don't. That is the difference more so than having a better or worse quality of a person as a student.

Tang is not leaving KSU for UT. He can continue what he has started at KSU and make an impact on the lives of the players that go through his program and, hopefully, across the KSU campus.
Its so puzzling that fans would chant something stupid when their team just won a great game.

Horns down is nothing like a vulgar chant. It may mean pretty much the same to some people (maybe those likely to join in on the chant) but not to everyone.
I love Jerome Tang, but if he does go to Texas, I hope he crashes and burns. I'll never root for that program under any circumstances.Russell Gym said:LIB,MR BEARS said:Russell Gym said:Johnny Bear said:

UT generally seems like a place good coaches go to fizzle. I hope Tang has big success at KState, then breaks the pattern at Texas if that's what he wants to do. I would agree under most circumstances, but Texas and A&M are the two exceptions. Those programs don't need any additional support. They're already at every advantage under the sun. And those two universities/programs have already done enough to hurt Baylor and its interests. Having them succeed athletically only turns the knife they've planted in our back, so I can't think of any good reason to root for that outcome.Russell Gym said:bear2be2 said:Russell Gym said:LIB,MR BEARS said:Russell Gym said:Johnny Bear said:

Because I come from the coaching profession, I always wish success for people over programs. As I've gotten older, my spread of allegiances and rooting interests has become quite diverse. When you know the individuals competing personally, it changes everything. At least it did for me.
Of course, I will always root for my own school, even during the wilderness years. At Baylor, we've given Moses a run for his money.
