Is there any news on Bonner? I have searched these forums but haven't found much. Any details on why he didnt play last night?

May have been CT, unsure but a knowledgeable poster mentioned he's dealing with an injury.

Baylor has not released anything, but I observed at halftime of the OSU game he was on the bench with some type of wrap or ice pack on his knee. And he seem to have a slight limp. He looked like he was dealing with some sort of injury.

Thanks CT. Hopefully he gets better soon. We need his energy off the bench in certain matchups.

I think Drew is usually pretty straight up and he said in the OU preview that it was DNP coaches decision due to tightening rotations. Said there was no injury. Interesting either way.

Another DNP for Bonner.

We played an 8 man rotation yesterday. It worked. By tournament it might go to 7. Even so, 8 is best chance we have to make second weekend.

He's just been phased out of the rotation. He'll probably play a few minutes here and there when foul trouble, ineffectiveness or matchups dictate it. But since the second half of the Oklahoma State game, his minutes have been going to Love. I'm a big Dale Bonner fan, but you can't argue with the results.

6'2'', 170 lbs vs 6'5'' 210 lbs and it shows. Love can finish through contact and has stepped up his defense.

There will be a role for Dale for sure, but in a physical game Love seems right.

Not to pick on the guy, but despite some improvement from last season he still routinely struggles against high end competition (especially on the offensive end) and high end competition is the only kind of competition in the B12. That's not to say Love all in all hasn't had his struggles as well (more so on the defensive end) but he's been improving more lately and obviously had a great game against KU. I also think the KU game clinched Love's spot in the eight-man rotation for at least the foreseeable future.

I love Dale. He was great on defense during non conference but unable to carry that over to conference play. That's too bad because it was so much fun watching him succeed.

But, as you say, we cannot argue with Langston's results.

Bonner seems like a good dude, but peak Love is better for the team than peak Bonner.

Langston has played great off the bench, but he is not playing the point. Adam played 38 minutes. In the games where Adam needs to rest or is in foul trouble, I would expect to see Bonner.

Has Adam ever been in foul trouble? I don't remember any games in which it was a real issue.

Same reason as Lovday and Turner, perhaps.

Bonner was okay playing a PG role against weaker non-conference teams, but he has demonstrated he can't handle ball pressure against high-level competition even in limited minutes. And his inability to shoot from the perimeter means he is a complete liability on the offensive end. That is why he fell out of the rotation.

I think ballhandling is the issue. The team has shown itself capable of breaking presses and sharing ballhandling duties with our 3 starting guards. Love simply gives us an extra scoring presence that is much needed.

I believe Bonner has one more year? I think keeping him engaged and getting him on the floor when possible is important as long as it doesn't cost us a game. Obviously staff knows what they are doing, so not questioning him not playing. He will be needed next year with Adam, and KG leaving. Additionally, you never know when an injury will happen, 3-4 of our guards have missed time due to some injury/sickness this year. Bonner is a super high effort guy but just doesn't have the next level skill for conference play. Not saying he can't get there with more practice, but just is a little limited from a physical standpoint.

I'm pretty sure this is Bonner final year. Replacing guards Key, Flagler, Bonner with Miro, Walter, and Grimes.

Are you certain Cryer, Love and Grimes are staying? In the portal era, anyone can leave. I would be surprised if all of our players don't get an unofficial call from a guy close to a big program, wondering if they're interested in making a move...

Drew has a very good record of retaining people. Most who leave go pro or lose eligibility. The younger generations may change that but hopefully not. It's all part of Drew's culture of J.O.Y.

And most who have transferred out are guys we didn't want to keep for one reason or another -- Bello, Crump, Dennis, Stargell Love, etc.

Not sure why Cryer would leave, he is one of our leading scores and getting as many minutes as he wants. He will be pivotal next year for the transition of key players moving on.
