Did he do something stupid? His record is solid.

One has to wonder - it's not like UHMB to do something like that for a coaching change midseason. O'Rear runs a tight ship at that institution. So one has to guess its not good...

In 7+ seasons at UMHB, Morefield had compiled a 159-50 (.761) record, including a 13-4 mark so far this season.

Yikes. Can't imagine you have career .700+ coaches lining up at the door to coach a D3 women's basketball program if they aren't given grace for flying off the handle in an intense moment once in seven years.

There is a video posted on the WBB board. I think he probably lost the team with his tirade. He might could have gotten away with it at state school, but not at a D3 school, much less a Baptist school, where players play for the love of the game, not a scholarship.

There are several things going on here:

It's a Baptist school and this is a very poor way to represent the school

It wasn't just any injury but a torn ACL that ends a kids year and MAYBE their basketball for life. It is a reason to be very upset.

Was another player partially to blame for the injury? We don't know so we don't know if a rant was necessary

If F-bombs are what you use when your upset with 18-22 year old girls playing basketball, how do you turn the rheostat up when something major needs to be addressed?
( I.e. if everything is urgent, nothing is urgent )

Does everyone benefit from this type of leadership? If the answer is no, is there a better way?

In my life, I've dropped more than my share of f-bombs, I've yelled, I've screamed, I've punched walls and windshields and guess what, the issue was still there; still waiting to be addressed.

Every right to be upset especially if some of these kids weren't following instructions which led to the ACL injury.

Moorefield got fired from Baylor for threatening to have a recruit deported (among other questionable recruiting tactics) and fired from UMHB for being a miserable *******. Why are so many so quick to defend this guy?

Can you imagine paying private school tuition to play basketball for this guy? This is Division III women's basketball for crying out loud.

Ive coached girls and boys. You can talk like this to your fooball team or boys basketball team but you cznt use those words with girls teams or baseball teams. You hsve to realize yiur audience.. Talking to girls like this will easily get you fired.

Division III athletes are playing for the love of the sport and little else. This is a really good way to snuff that out.
