Seems to be getting only 10-12 minutes now off the bench for Sac. This Fox kid is having an all-star season, so that doesn't help.

Do we think DM can be a starter in this league?

Not right now. In a few years? Maybe.

The talent at PG in the NBA is amazing right now. A lot of big PGs too.

He just need to keep working. He's still a beast on defense. He's just not a star on offense. That can certainly come with time/effort.

Now? This has been his role all year. Sacramento is up and coming, so he will either be their bench guy or he'll be traded. I don't see any scenario where he breaks that starting lineup. He's just not a consistent enough shooter.

He was getting 20+ minutes consistently, early in the season. I look at every box score after every Kings game. I just noticed he was getting very limited playing time for the last several weeks/months. That's what I meant by "now". Fox is having a heck of a season . This whole team is having a heck of a season.

Edit: went backed and looked. Not as big of drop-off as I thought. But noticeable. Anyway just was hoping he could have a Kyle Lowery type career.

He was filling up the stat sheet at the end of last year when he was starting and getting good minutes. With his excellent D, he should be in the league for a while and could probably start for some teams. Right now he's simply behind an allstar PG on the depth chart.

The NBA is almost a different sport to college basketball. Similar to an extend to the NHL vs Olympic hockey. Canada and US play on smaller rinks that require great strength to maintain the puck. Some high scoring European players don't work out in NHL because they struggle with the smaller ice and more physical play.

NBA is spaced more than college. Almost everyone in a starting 5 these days can do everything. Some players need more time to adjust. Mitchell should always have a spot on a team with his defensive prowess but if you can't shoot over 40% from deep consistently as a guard then you'll be on the bench more than not. He might be helped going to a bad team and getting lots of minutes.

I never understood in the first place why Sac used a lottery pick on him to be a 3rd string PG behind Fox and Haliburton. Today's modern NBA PG needs to be more like Keyonte, a scoring machine who can also distribute. Due to his offensive limitations unfortunately Davion may end up being a career backup. He came in as a polished product and is already 24 years old, so teams might already see him performing at his ceiling in his current backup role.

Bad fit with roster and has regressed back to previous years shooting percentages. The 3 ball % junior year hasn't held up in the league. With a crowded backcourt defense will keep him in the mix.

Needs to shore up the shot and adjust to the length.

The NBA has 5 starters per 30 teams. Throw in a few role players. So 8 guys get actual minutes? That's a small number. Hence only 2 draft rounds.

If Mitchell puts the work in on the 3 ball he can be a serious minutes getter. He's got the athleticism and defensive skill and effort.

But the NFL has 22 guys on a field at a time. NBA has 10. NBA takes talent from over 300 D1 schools and international leagues around the world. NFL takes talent from primarily 130 D1/FBS schools.
