If you've been paying attention at all, it's not odd. In Cameroonian culture, your given name is a source of great pride. Anything to obscure your name is seen as a diminishment of your family, and he deeply dislikes that. Shortening his name because it's difficult for you to type is seen as disrespectful.
On the other hand, Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua seems to like the name "Everyday Jon," or simply "EJ," I would wager because it refers to his work ethic and attitude, and isn't simply an abbreviation of his given name.
