Right now we are a solid two but what would we have to do and what has to happen for us to get a one?

Beat Iowa State and then probably win the Big 12 Tournament.

I'd say we are more of a solid 3 currently.

Yeah, win out. 2 seed is probably a lock otherwise.

Conversely, if we lose to ISU and lose our opening round game in the B12 Tourney, does that likely drop us to the 3 line? Is there any way we could fall all the way to a 4?

As long as we don't pull the hottest underrated team in the country for our 2nd round game...

Think we're a 2 seed lock IF we beat iSU Saturday. Beat ISU and reach the B12 title game and things get interesting. We could still end up on the 3 seed line as well if we falter these last few games

I think we would need to win out and beat Kansas on the way to the Big 12 tournament title. The Jayhawks are our primary competition in-conference for one of those spots. If we were to take two of three from them on the way to the tournament championship, it would be really hard to leave us off the No. 1 line.

That's a steep hill to climb, though, and we have not traditionally done very well in the conference tournament. Maybe this year will be different.

The honest truth is we've crapped the bed a ton in KC. Would love to win a few up there this year. Gets John more run, gets Bonner more PT to build his confide even more. Gets Drew a chance to figure out rotations that work with Dale. A lot of good can happen from winning a few in KC. Gotta avoid that 1st rd matchup with TCU. Want no part of them in the Quarters

Win out for a 1.

Beat ISU on Saturday and we're a 2 no matter what happens in KC.

I would think it is a little more than what others have said. I think we would have to win Saturday, win the Big 12 tournament AND have one maybe two other teams lose badly in their tournament. I just don't see us (or anyone) being ranked 7th and getting a 1 seed.

We have the 2nd most Quad 1 wins right now, every remaining game is a Quad 1 game, so each win only increases that total...I think we're lock for a 2 seed with a W Saturday, no matter what happens in KC. Would be nice to play our way into 2nd place in the conference and a least have a less tough first round matchup

Feel bad for whoever draws TCU in KC and in the Big Dance...the losses they had due to the injuries will leave them under seeded for sure

Win out with Purdue losing 1-2 or Houston losing 1. Possible to pass KU I guess but whoever wins the regular season in the big 12 should be a 1 by default unless its a 3 way tie or something.

Purdue will probably lose another game or two. Hou might but the comp in the league just isn't any good.

I just don't think we really prioritize the Big 12 tournament, and frankly, I'm ok with that. Most years, there's not much to gain from a long run in KC. And we've had a lot of beat up teams that needed rest more than they needed games before the important tournament.

But this is a dry year….we really need the rain.

Haha.

On a serious note, I actually agree with Iowa on this year being one where we could benefit from the extra games. We need to get everyone healthy and playing comfortably together before the dance.

I agree that if we beat Iowa State we are a lock for a 2 seed. I don't see us winning the Big 12 tourney. It's just not a priority.

Also, after the first round the Big Dance is a crap shoot. A 3-6 seed has a chance for a (theoretically) easier 2nd round game. I guess what I'm saying is the difference between a 1 and 2 seed isn't a big deal. Ultimately, though, you just have to beat who you play. So much depends on who's in your bracket and how it plays out.

If Kansas wins their next two, they're a No. 1 no matter what happens in the Big 12 tourney. They might be a No. 1 even if they go 1-1 this week.
If Houston wins their next two, they're a No. 1 no matter what happens in the AAC tourney.

The only way we jump Bama, Purdue and UCLA for one of those last two spots is for one or more of them to lose once this week and exit early in their tournament, and even then, we'd probably have to win the Big 12 tournament, or at least make it to the championship game and not let KSU or Texas win it. KSU and Texas are most likely in the same thought process as us.

We win Saturday, and we're locked at 2. We lose Saturday and first round, we could get bumped to a 3. Being a 3 seed has been bad for us.

I dont actually think its even a 1% possibility. Stars would have to align. Maybe if we hadnt dropped 2 of our last 3 games... 2 seed is fine.

At the end of the day this squad just doesnt seem to have it for a 1 seed. Too many turnovers, sloppy 2nd half finishes, etc. We let teams back in games they have no business being in, and let too many people run past us to the rim untouched/unchallenged. This is an elite 8 team at best. Final 4 wont happen.

In the middle of the season I was just hoping we could work our way up to a 3 seed. For me getting the 2 seed is gravy.

I got curious about how MM results varied between 1 and 2 seeds and found this.

If we win Saturday & others lose games then we could move up in the rankings very easily. In theory, we could even get to 4 or 5. If that happens, moving up to a 1 seed is easier to contemplate. Big this is all speculation & a lot would have to fall out way to get there.

Never say never. We are peaking really late & many of our guys are playing very well. Bonner is playing the best of his career. Bridges & EJ are doing well & getting better. Assuming these trends continue & everyone stays healthy, a Final Four becomes more possible. It may still be a long shot but they are showing more potential than they have for a long time.

KU wins tonight, they can lose Saturday and lose their first game in the tourney and they're not falling off the 1 line.

Just don't see it in the cards for us unless we run the table winning Saturday and then all the way thru the conference tournament AND one or two of the 1 seed line guys lose a couple.

UCLA is the one with the momentum that would be the most likely steal a 1 seed, IF Houston went into a tailspin with loses to Wichita St and Memphis and/or a loss to one and then an early exit in the AAC. Simultaneously UCLA would have to run the table and beat Arizona in the Pac championship game. Too many upsets necessary for all of this and Houston, in particular, is not gonna lose 2 or 3 in a row.
