Would we be better off with Mayer playing for us instead of George? MM is shooting higher % 2's & 3's , more rebounds and less turnovers.
Ok, bring on the hate.

George reminds me of Mayer in that he shows great flashes as a freshman. You cannot compare a Super-Senior player to a Freshman.

Exactly. Mayer leaving or staying had nothing to do with George.

Hmm, So if George doesn't come to Baylor Mayer still splits to Illinois? Perhaps.

We could really use Mayer on this team.

Baylor wouldn't match his NIL money.

I watched a little of the Illinois/Michigan game last week. MM had a good game, but also made some really boneheaded plays. He jacked up a couple of threes in OT vs playing the mismatch and taking his man to the basket. He has such tremendous talent, but his mental game has not seemed to progress enough to make him a viable NBA player. I am a big MM fan and was really bummed when he left, but he also at times hurt our team with bad decisions, not all that different than what we see from KG. The difference is KG is a freshman. I will say this, if Ish can find a place on an NBA roster, so can MM, he just has to mature enough to limit his mistakes.

If George didn't come to Baylor, we would have recruited another guard. There wouldn't just be an open spot.

The real question is how good could we be if Brown had stayed. Not gonna say Sochan because he would have been a fool to stay.

We could have declined to redshirt Grimes instead of recruiting another guard. I feel like our biggest need is in the front court. It seems Bridges is a natural 3.

KB returning probably would have meant Bridges wouldn't be here and we would still be stuck with Lohner to fill MM roster spot. That said, KB is injured and undergoing surgery so who knows if he would have been healthy for us if he would have returned. Another reminder for anyone criticizing his decision to leave, he is injured but still getting paid NBA $. Never can blame guys for leaving if they know they will be drafted even if they slide to the 2nd round. It is a gamble either way, the injury risk has to be considered.

We are a guard-oriented program and always will reload with elite guards. That will never change under CSD.

Mayer is such a talented young man but he was elevated by the play of four other great players in those early years at Baylor. Like Flagler, he was best at at set shot from the 3 but could rebound as well and had a sweet lane move.

When the time came for him to lead and asked to do more offensively, he struggled. I think we have seen the best of MM and it was great, but taking that next step was not meant to be. He needed better basketball judgment and more floor leadership.

All that said, his talent sure wouldn't have hurt this year, but I think he made the right move. He was offered a reported $800K to to go Illinois.

If true, I agree that would likely be unwise to turn down. He already has a natty in his back pocket.

I don't disagree with you there, but we still have three elite level guards counting Love. With Grimes, we would have still had a five guard rotation. In all honestly though, I don't know how good Grimes is.

Mayer would have made a huge impact for us this year. probably most importantly he would have improved our defense and rebounding.

If we couldn't match his NIL, we couldn't match it. I saw him doing a GreatClips ad on IG. He just got 3rd team all Big 12.

I am not sure how good Grimes is either, but I optimistic he will be a stud for us. Given our staff's track record redshirting and developing guys over the years. Miro / Ja'Kobe / Cryer next year's 3 headed backcourt monster along with Grimes, Love and maybe even Bonner if he returns in the rotation. EJ a year healthier and Josh O anchoring the middle (I expect a big jump from Josh O after an offseason of development). Hopefully Turner and Loveday and Lohner move on with their respective lives and we hit the portal for a couple of forwards to pair with Bridges who can do some dirty work on the defensive end. Already looking forward to next year I suspect we will be nails on the defensive end like in years past. Ja'Kobe himself will almost single-handedly transform our perimeter D.
