We just spent the last few weeks beating the snot out of each other. Worn out and sore from their toes to their noses and in great need of rest, what do all of the big 12 schools gain by playing one more stupid round of ball battering before those who do survive go play a super big tournament that really can mean something for each school?!

I could go on and on with my rant.....but why, nobody cares?

I truly hate the Big 12 tournament!
And that goes for the Ladiy's side as well

I agree. The regular season is enough of a tournament. All about $$$.

Fully agree. I see value for those hoping for a puncher's chance at an automatic bid. But for those teams already getting bids the regular season is already a war of attrition and that tournament is an unnecessary injury and fatigue risk. I never like losing but kinda glad we avoided another meaningless game.

...and every year its in the Yankee territories so we can't go to it very easy.

The first game, yes. But after that will be dependent on matchups.

Since Scott Drew turned the corner with our program, Baylor has gone 12-15 in the Big 12 Tournament with eight years going 0-1.

We're just never good there. Sometimes it portends of things to come. Other times it's good to quit playing and get ready for the NCAA. Not sure what this year is, but I think it's closer to option 1.

We squeaked by a crappy K-State team and lost by 9 to a mediocre Oklahoma State team in the semis the year we won the natty. I just don't think Drew coaches to it with much veracity. Unless we need it to get into the tourney, which is rare, I stopped caring about it a long time ago.

Just curious---would y'all be angry even if we were winning each year in the tournament?

That was the second week back after 21 days off because of COVID, where it was reported most of the team had it with symptoms. All of us thought it was best to rest up after the OSU game. Nobody was freaking out.

This year is different. We're not playing well. I can still see us getting two wins and then see who we match up against.

A team with double digit losses has shown a pattern of not being able to simply turn it on or turn it off at will.
One game in and of itself doesn't mean a tremendous amount. A 5 or 6 game span over 3 weeks that represents your recent performance characteristics and 20% of your entire schedule does. I don't think Drew and staff ever enter a game thinking, "Oh, it's okay if we lose this one. It doesn't matter."

Yep. We've been playing like trash since the second half of the Kansas game. We played a good 25 minutes against Texas and got lucky Oklahoma State can't shoot, but we haven't looked like a second weekend team for a long time now.

There was no benefit whatsoever to continuing that trend in the Big 12 quarterfinals.

This quote from Tang summarizes my view of the big 12 tournament much better than I tried to in my post.

Actually, Drew said losing early in the Big 12 Tournament in '21 gave the team needed rest and practice time that really helped win the Natty. Although not a planned strategy at the time, it might be a good one to consider.

Or, you can see how much it helped us last year.

One game doesn't mean anything, one way or the other.

We keep losing but can't seem to get off that 2 line. I think Marquette has a chance if they win the conference tourney final. K state can't and the other 3s just aren't there.

Wild this team could be a 2. Just shows the type of year

Seriously, does this Baylor team really deserve a 2 seed?

Do you seriously deserve to be allowed to post?
That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier

We are 3rd in the nation in quad 1 wins with 11. Behind KU with 16 and UT with 12. So there's that I guess.

We also have double digit losses and got dominated 3 times by a 19-13 team. I'd have to look at previous years but I'd guess there's very few 10 loss teams on the 2 line in previous years If any

After our first tournament game, every game seems like a 50/50 chance. Baylor is due to get hot again. I know our guys have pride, and will do their best.

Most years no. But this year it's close. I'm speaking to how strange a year it is that they could be considered for it.

The ucla win is one of the best in the country and Gonzaga is playing really well now. Combine that with wins over Tex, Ku, and others. They have a case even if the volatility and play style of the team can frustrate at times.

I think we're waiting for Marquette to play to see if we get it.
Quinton

Agree with both points. But I lean toward Iowa that consistent heavy losses should probably take them out of contention most years.

I would think most 2s don't have 7 big losses like ours where they get run off the court for large portions of the game.

If Marquette wins their tourney they probably deserve it. It would be close. When it's near even you can take head to head into consideration.. and it wasn't good.

Marquette has some solid wins and all of their losses except for 1 have been by less than 10 points. I would be shocked if they don't jump into the 2 line.

All 10 losses were to quad 1 opponents including that 19-13 team.
