...so I mentioned this in the UCSB game thread and really noticed it that weekend of games including the Creighton game.

I thought either the rims were right in all the sites or the ball looked super bouncy. Appears they were using a new ball in the tournament. Baylor mentioned in the below article..and I just saw Mulkeys in game interview where she mentions the new ball causing their shooting woes tonight.

Interesting. The NBA still uses real leather. A broken in leather ball does seem to get some favorable bounces around the rim.

Reading the thread title, I thought this topic would about finding tougher players from the portal.

They're checking that at the portal now? I thought Airport security was bad enough.

B12 should play all league games with the new ball so the players can get used to it. Subtle changes can have big results.

I was passing through security in the Miami airport yesterday. I noticed not all men were taking of their belts. I asked the first worker if I had to take off my my belt. He sad if I didnt there was a chance I would get pulled over and patted down. I looked over his shoulder and said it would depend on which official was doing the patting down. The man had no sense of humor. I took off my belt.

Good idea BearFan 33.

I understand the desire to try new balls. I do not understand doing so in the NCAA tournament. Unless this was announced long in advance, before the season began, it was a foolish idea that disadvantaged some teams unfairly.

So, wait. You're saying the NCAA has some bad ideas?

Doesn't work that way. Home team provides balls. Nike, as part of its sponsorship of Baylor athletics, requires the school to use Nike branded balls. That's some of the most valuable advertising real estate in all of sports (same goes for football).

Hence, Kansas uses Adidas basketballs, etc…

NCAA tournament uses Wilson.

Great info. Thanks.

I guess BU (on their own) could have purchased the balls to practice some with but couldn't use them in games until the NCAA tourney.

They do, but I'd you remember about 10-12 years ago they went to composite balls and the players had a backlash so they reverted back.
