Welp , just lost our EIGHT GUY to the portal -Ernest Udeh is gone. not sure what the h - - - is going on. My question or thinking is, if this is the way it's going to be then why even mess around with high school recruiting. - Where in the hell has the loyalty gone for the High School kids ? One of the things I used to like about Coach Self was hm recruiting three-four yr players and develop them. Examples - -Doke , McCormack , Och none of these were much at all as freshmen, but the staff worked with them & they turned out being really solid player. - -Frank Mason wasn't hardly recruited by anyone and yet through development NPOY his Sr season.

I think the portal is ruining College Basketball , there is a reasonable amount of fans are not happy here. Udeh was going to be a very solid player --Zuby would of been fine - -something been think about and people may chuckle , snicker whatever but watch I think and others think that down the line this could very well come back and bite Self right in the rear, High School kids be looking at him in a whole different light when it comes to recruitment. - -Or at least parents will be looking at hi a lot different, and I can't blame them.

I mean a kid comes in with you saying with work your going to become the fixture of the program and then the next year it's like your being recruited over and more or less being told to get out - - go find another school. just not right what the hell eve happened to loyalty. Fans used to complain about OAD'S - saying there was no way a kid could connect or connect with a School only being there a year, that they don't even bother to unpack their suit case. - - Well you got kids now that are 3-4 yr players and Coach's not letting them unpack by recruiting over them after one year - just toal BS

The SEC, B1G, NIL, and portal aren't going to help anyone going forward. As it seems to evolve I equate BU, with Coach Drew, like Carlesimo and Carnesecca. When Drew retires/leaves so will BU. It may already be the case regarding football. The fans/viewing audiences will evolve as does the platform that the powers design. The topic has been discussed at length already multiple ways, etc. For someone who only cares for college sports and has an allegiance to a university that isn't in one of the elite conferences it's hard being on the outside looking in. Sigh...

It is the wild west but it is the logical conclusion to the charade of so-called amateur collegiate sports (mostly fb and high level bball). Will probably need regulation and possible union for "employees"/players. Seems to be the only path as NIL is never going back.

But I mean if KU signs the last guy they are vying for they are probably preseason #1 so theres that. It does make your point though considering you will benefit next year and still don't really like it. The kid is going to be really good and don't blame him for not wanting to sit around a veteran in Hunter who is a "better" current player but much less talented. Strange current dynamic.

Honestly Udeh should be our top target. If we somehow landed him and one of Bridges / Flagler came back we would pass WVU/Tex/Hou/Tcu and be the clear #2 in the conference.

NIL is out at this point, that genie is not going back in the bottle.

It seems like some form of contract is the final state of this. Guaranteed money from the school/NIL for X number of years; options for various scenarios.

Jayballer is right. Others are only hoping that things change, but I believe this is all part of a master plan allowing there to be two big leagues in college athletics. Those that have the gold make the rules. Those teams can afford to lord it over the smaller, less funded schools. It is only a matter of time between now and when the group of non-SEC/BIG separate by financials.

The portal/NIL was introduced without any rules/ regulations so we have a total sh*t show. Essentially it's now an uncapped free market, even the professional leagues have better rules and they are a pay for play system.
This particular situation however is on Self, he brought in a player that essentially is promised the starting role at center and replacing a player that was working his way up. It's the risk you take when you being in a player that is a mercenary for one year.

Unless we are losing Josh or Jonathan, I don't see it. Udeh played 8 minutes a game, averaged about 1.5 rebounds, 2pts a game. Kansas guy complaining about portal is like the guy who upgraded his Taurus for a brand new BMW, and being all sad to lose his Taurus. Not buying it.

If Jon is back and capable then I agree. Would just like another big with potential. Think this kid is going to be really good and a little undervalued.

Life was so much easier when illegal shoe contracts ran the show and cash was in envelopes, just as Self, I mean god, intended.
