I wonder which is his order if preference, the list or the graphic? Or maybe neither.

I have no insight at at all, but it seems based on other comments I would be most worried about Kentucky. I can't imagine Texas is going to be a huge threat. Kansas has a ton of offer obviously. Arkansas head coach is a tool, and they have underperformed based on talent, but they have pulled in some great freshmen. Not sure how much the legacy play helps us. Seems like that has been a non factor in most instances with the Bears.

One of the misconceptions at that level in the CBB world is that NIL funds are the be-all for recruitment. Keyonte is proof of this. One-and-dones like Johnson who have a massive NBA paycheck coming their way in 12 months are less concerned with the bag from one year of college ball than a football player in a similar situation, who has several years of commitment in front of him.

NIL matters way more in wooing transfers than it does in convincing guys who will be making $4+ million their first year in the league if they go in the top 10.

Of course it still matters, but there's variance there that doesn't exist in football. I think he'll still probably go UK or KU, but mostly because it's easy.

On3.com has us as the favorite to land him, currently. They have Texas currently in second.

What's link academy?
One of those basketball-intensive high schools that helps kids prepare for what they actually want to do when they can do it. Link Academy is in Branson, MO, and was the school JaKobe Walter attended as a senior.

This seems like a smart move for Tre Johnson. Even the best prospect in the class will benefit from playing/practicing with the best competition on a daily basis.

I actually used to work for the team it's part of Kanakuk Kamps and Missouri during the school year. They have a post high school program called link year that I also attended that puts kids through discipleship and we do travels and stuff then the added basketball first with post high school players that didn't get recruited well and now they've
Now added the high school side of it so these guys are taking courses online while
. playing basketball

Not putting much stock in it. But if we retain most of the guys for next year (Walter probably gone) and add Johnson and the Philly Pg along highly touted wing.. I like us as the favorite for the big 12 and one of the national title favorites. Assuming Little would be primed for a huge year his Sophmore run.

Would keep it rolling. This would be a special group. Think next year's can be as well if it comes together mid season.
Crawfoso1973

Yeah it is crazy to think someone as talented as Little might be our 5th or 6th guard next year. Our backcourt keeps reloading. I heard Tre interviewing and saying our guard-oriented system and the freedom we give our guards is the main draw, so he can develop his game for the next level.

Yep has a smooth pro ready game. Would be our most polished recruit probably ever. Has tapered off a tad with the one or two other guys "passing" him in some rankings. Was consensus #1 for a long time.

But still consensus top 5 guy and lottery pick. If Little, Grimes, Nunn are all back along with Missi's second year with a few transfer bigs.. that's a perfect blend of talent and experience

The word is finally out to the blue chips about Drew's guard specialty. For the most part he's been flipping transfers, projects and fringe top-100 guys for his career, and it wasn't until, IMO, Butler/Mitchell/Teague popped at the same time that guys like Key and Walter woke up.

If you look at Drew's earlier recruiting successes, they were all forwards - Miller, Austin, and Jones were the only 5-stars we'd recruited for a decade until Kendall. The natty lit the guard signal flares, and we've had top 10 guards two years in a row, and now maybe three if Johnson signs. That's wiiiiild.

I'd actually use Jared Butler as a BJB/AJB (Before/After Jared Butler) marker for this entire program. Well thought of 4-star who Drew's staff recruited, signed, and developed whole cloth into the best guard in America over four full years of work. Many hands went into building this program, but Butler in particular has a special designation in where we are today.

I think Tweety was the first. He was Drew's first splashy recruit and at the time a McDonald's All-American was absolutely mind-blowing.

But I agree Butler was the bridge to the guard pipeline we have today. In fact, Butler's freshman year I was texting friends "he is our best guard since Tweety."

Now we know for certain, Drake Toll is calling it.

Of course, his source is 247 so maybe he's not so locked on as he thinks. I hope he's correct this time. Tre would be a huge get for Baylor.

No pressure, but the sin of blowing a recruiting call is one that may be forgiven in Heaven, just not on sicem365...

Drake May be correct or, more precisely, his source (247) may be correct but Tre's decision to go to Baylor will almost certainly have nothing to do with him & probably nothing to do with the web site.

I agree to a degree, but I'd argue that while Tweety did help change the program's direction in a massive way, he didn't fundamentally alter the conception of Baylor as an NBA waystation for top 10 guards like Butler did.

In other words, Tweety helped us crack into the fringe top 100 - that's about where he was ranked as a HS senior, and the guys who came after him were to a large degree just like he was in ranking. It was Butler, though, himself a fringe top 100 guy, who (I'd argue) cracked the mold and progressed us into the rarified air occupied only by programs like Kentucky, Duke and Kansas in terms of year-over-year blue chip interest.

I don't think we have a George without a Butler, and we probably don't have a Butler without a Tweety, so there you go.

Interesting story here, sounds like a decision isn't absolutely imminent. Of his mini-breakdown of the various recruiting pitches it certainly seems like ours is the strongest.

Quote:

"Arkansas, they've been staying on me, talking about the guys they've sent to the league," he told KSR. "Baylor, they want me to stay home and follow in my father's footsteps and be one of the guards they give freedom to. Kentucky, I can be one of their one-and-done players. I can be one of the combo guards they use, help me improve so I can get to the draft. Kansas, just being a part of the winning program they've had over the years. Texas, I can come in and be one of those guards (Rodney Terry) works with.

"I'll probably take one more visit to Alabama. I want to go to a school I haven't been to yet. It's a nice school, I like what they did with Brandon Miller last year. They're telling me I can be one of those guys, a guard they bring in and help improve their draft stock."
