Interesting interview with Eurospects here. Little comes off well. Here are the Baylor parts.

You chose Baylor over schools such as Villanova and Indiana. How is your relationship with coach Scott Drew since he is known for developing guards? How are you preparing for your first season in the NCAA?

That's the big reason why I picked Baylor, I know that they are really good at developing guards. My relationship with the whole coaching staff was also important, I really like them. There is a winning culture over there in Baylor and that's crucial to me, knowing that every time we step into the court, we are there for a reason.

Your friend Jeremy Sochan also played for Baylor before he was selected by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2022 NBA Draft. What do you want to say about your friendship with him?

He's cool man! He is very funny. He had a great season and watching him succeed is really cool. Biggest thing I learned from J is, nobody's path is the same. He probably had one of the wildest paths, going from the UK, US, Germany, back to the US and to the NBA is wild. That is something people do not appreciate enough. We all have different stories. Don't try to be like someone else, be yourself. Everybody see him out there with different hair colors and shooting the free throws with one hand. If it works for you and that reflects who you truly are, embrace yourself. There is nothing wrong with having role models and stuff but always be yourself, that is probably the best thing I've learned from him as a friend over the years. Jeremy also had an influence over my decision to choose Baylor. I already knew all about the school and daily life from his experiences.

What are your goals for next season?

We are going to win it all with Baylor. With Yves Missi and Ja'Kobe Walter, we are going to be good. We have a lot of good players on the team. We know that if we work hard and be on the same page in terms of our goals, it is going to be a great season. Living and experiencing the college basketball atmosphere is going to be exciting.

I like this confidence, but we're going to need a lot more portal help if we're going to pull off something like that.

If Bridges returns I don't think we need a lot more help from the portal. If he doesn't we need a little more help at forward. Next year's team is going to be young, but talented. It just depends on how talented.

The mentalilty and intensity of this team is going to be good. Little and Walter are aggressive and intense guys. But going up against 4-5 teams of seasoned 22/23 yr olds is going to be hard to do. Would love to bring in another guy and make it happen by conference.

Easily one of the 2-3 most talented teams (probably #1 after Tex lost their top recruits and KU lost a few) in the conference but will be going up against very good, seasoned, proven guys 4 to 5 yrs older. Need to bring in another guy and get Bridges back at a minimum.

Maybe we will be lucky and get Dale Bonner back. He was really starting to look great towards the end of the season. I can only dream that Adam will return but I don't see that happening. To be honest, if he has a real shot of being drafted early he shouldn't return.

We do need Bridges back too.

Bonner is gone I think to Ohio st. Probably better for both parties. The Vcu kid is a much better offensive talent than Bonner and equal defender/athlete.

If Flagler were to return the team would immediately be a national title contender and conference favorite.. he's that good. Long shot though

To be honest, my only real concern with these freshmen is this: are they one-and-dones or will they stick around for a year of two? If one or more are here for 2-3 years, we will be more likely to make another trip to the Final Four & maybe even earn another natty.

Our natty team were veterans who had lots of experience & kept improving from year to year.

If they're not one-and-done we are not competing for a Championship. Their upside is what this team is banking on, not the returning talent.

We're going to need a glue guy at the forward position, like Mark Vital.

I know its only two years, but the world has changed in mbb so much that I doubt the way our NC team was built is any longer a likely or even possible scenario. That team was built by transfers staying long with the program--they had to, because transfers had to sit out a year (no longer). Transfers had a year to get used to the system, conditioning, and working on aspects of their game. Because you are never going to have transfers sitting a year, you lose that window of experience. The odds of another core 4-5 players on an elite team working together for 3 years? Slim. Coaches with the portal need to assess talent quickly, make decisions rapidly, and be prepared to move on when players move. To paraphrase Calipari (not my favorite Coach, but always good for a quote, just ask him), everyone wants talent and experience, but if you have to choose, choose talent.

Excellent post and I agree fully. In today's environment, you can't bank (pun intended) on any player staying more than 1 season. Gotta be prepared for 75% roster turnover every single year. I would rather lose guys who are talented enough to be one and dones under that scenario, as opposed to mid-level talent leaving for more NIL $.
