I remember, when his career ended, Bill Russell was commentator for NBA games for a couple of years. With audio of the time, you had a hard time following what he would be saying. The 30-40% I understood was really good though.

Walton and Barkley would be entertaining, but you would need someone else in the booth to occasionally give the score and such.

If you want to enjoy a running stand up comedy routine while a basketball game is happening they'd be great, but if you mainly want some actual consistent quality commentary on the game then not so much.
