Found out that Tom Friedman died recently. Tom was from Paris, Texas and played at Baylor all four years. 1971 was his senior and last year to play for Baylor. In 1969 in a game at College Station, Tom fouled a player as he was going in for a layup. The a&m player shoved Tom into the stands at the end of the court where all the a&m football team sat. Tom was finally pulled from the melee but not before the a&m football team pounded him, giving him 20+ stitches. Bunch of classless coward jerks. Good hard nose player liked by all of his teammates. Rest in Peace big guy!

Found out that Tom Friedman died recently. Tom was from Paris, Texas and played at Baylor all four years. 1971 was his senior and last year to play for Baylor. I was there. Ag band had to play the national anthem to get the cowards to stop the attack.
If it had happened today, Aggies would have fired the coach and forfeited the rest of the season. Wait, SEC, never mind.perrynative said:

Sad to hear. I knew Tom, had a bio lab with him. Billy Hobbs is the LB whose name we should not forget in this event, as well as that paragon of integrity, Shelby Metcalf.
Gene Stallings was worse than Shelby. He was still telling a story how his boys saved Tom ten years after the fight.

Condolences to Tom's family and all who mourn his passing..A great guy..That 71 team finished 2nd to TCU in the SWC that year..Remember going up to Daniel-Meyer to watch BU play a Goo Kennedy led TCU team on my birthday..Got in free wearing my Frat brothers letter jacket...It was Pat Nunn's, and it was a tad large! Gate keeper smiled and let me in free...We lost the game, and the one later at the HOT..Nevertheless, a great BU team that was really fun to watch and drew nice crowds whenever they played..RIP Tom...

Tom had lived in Oregon almost his whole life. Laurie who he met at Baylor was with him. He died in his sleep during a nap after 18 holes of golf with Laurie.Bexar Pitts said:

I knew Tom well. We came into Martin Hall the at the same time, Tom playing BB and I was playing FB.
My Tom Friedman path crossing goes back to high school days on a night that was filled with oddities.
Marshall HS was in Paris for a track meet. There were 4 top high hurdlers in East Texas, A kid named Blakely from Paris, Dennis Watson and myself from Marshall and Robbie Spacek (brother to actress Sissy Spacek) from Quitman.
A group of Paris HS athletes were the hurdle setters and Tom was the head of the group as I understood it,
We lined up for the finals and the gun went off. The top 4 were even until the 8th hurdle, when all of a sudden instead of 10 yards between hurdles it was 8 yards, then 12 yards to the next hurdle. Watson and I negotiated the miss-alignment by cross stepping while others crashed into the 8th hurdle. Dennis finished 1st and I finished second.
They had set one of the hurdles on the 330 intermediate marks painted on the track curb instead of the 120 High hurdle mark and Tom was "in charge"
The officials from Paris wanted to rerun the finals so Blakely could have a chance to win, but we said "absolutely not", give us our medals and thanks you very much !!
That was the first time I knew who Tom Freidman was !!
