Usually an elbow hitting the head, or the face is what brings the question of intentionality. Unless there was a scrum for the ball on the court floor, hard to image how an elbow intersects with a kidney.

Gotta be something missing here. I've never heard of something like this before. Must be a pre existing condition or Dr.'s effed something up or both.
If this was a thing that happens you'd expect guys would be losing kidneys daily, especially in football.

Here's video. It definitely looks like he threw his elbow, but that's most likely a play to clear space, not to injure your opponent. 99 times out of 100, this happens and everyone plays on. It's a shame the Sebrian forward was seriously injured here.
