Rival our NCAA Tournament team? I think it has a chance. Less experience, but more talent. And this team has a Senior point guard, so it has experience.
Can't wait to see those guys. From everything I've seen thus far, love their game. Also excited to see what Miro and Grimes have to offer.Crawfoso1973 said:
Ja'Kobe and Missi also. One-and-done guys who are equally engaged on the defensive end.

No team will ever again have the same experience as our Natty team, due to NIL and the perfect storm of COVID allowing us to have those guys back another year.
Luckily our current team won't have to compete against our 2020-21 team, rather the current NCAA landscape. I like our chances.
Yep - they could absolutely lock down teams defensively, handle defensive pressure, and knock down the 3. That was a great combinationhistorian said:
Our natty team:
1. Tons of talent in all aspects of the game (ball hawks, 3 point shooting, defense, etc)
2. National DPoY
3. Lots of experience (2+ years at Baylor & transfers with experience elsewhere)
4. Best 3 point shooting team in the country: at one point, they were saying we had 5-6 players shooting 40% or better from 3
5. Incredible chemistry
6. Team cohesion enhanced by being in the bubble
7. Mark Vital: the man is special & was an amazing asset to the team.
8. What else? If we thought about it, we could several special traits to this list.
My point: they were special and it's a combination not likely to be repeated anywhere. Does this mean we won't get another natty? I hope not! I don't think so.
It's very possible: they could win another natty but that team was unique. We cannot expect to have that kind of team again.
From what I understand, Davion was in the gym like 8-10 hrs a day.. no joke. Dude was in the gym on NYE for hours. Macio was also in there the whole season. Jon, Vital, and Butler were also tremendous workers. Extra year of work on individual development and chemistry. Plus huge motivation with cancelled tourney (one last run)..perfect storm.Crawfoso1973 said:
My bad, I misspoke. We had those guys in the lab together all those months, building team chemistry. Those circumstances will never happen again.
True, but to be fair the 2022 team would have been the clear odds on favorite to win it all without the piling injuries. I think they would have won the title if even a few of Flag, Akinjo, Jon, and Brown were somewhat healthy. All those guys were playing at 70% or worse with Jon obviously being out. Not to mention losing Love who was looking great before the year even began.IowaBear said:
Yup OP does this yearly… every pre season team is better than one of the greatest CBB teams ever. It's nauseating. That 21 title team not being touched by any Bu or any team period for awhile
I did say the 2022 team was special and was the best team in the country and as good as the 2021 team. Then the injuries hit. I never said that about last year's team. I said last year's team had as good of a chance to win it all as any other team last year. I did say Keyonte George was special and should be a high lottery pick.IowaBear said:

I don't remember the comparison but you're right 2022 even healthy was nowhere close to 2021.
I do think they would have won the national title but still think the unique mix of the 2021 team would not have been stopped. Too many guards to try and handle.BUCANDOIT82 said:Quinton said:

The teams were different because the strength of the 2021 team was the guards with a strong from court. The strength of the 2022 team was the front court with a strong supporting back court. The 2022 team was 17-0 and ranked number one and then the injury bug hit.
Depends how quickly the team gels, if they hit their shots, what team leadership looks like, and whether they can find some sort of edge to deliver them in tough grind-it-out games.Big12Bear said:
We added the MAC/Mid-Major Player of the Year and a veteran defensive specialist who can also score and shoots damn near 40% from three. Deepest team we've ever had.
I don't think the "experts" really know how to rank us. How will EJ and Love bounce back with the extra time to heal? Don't know except they will be better than what we saw last year.

The 2021 team believed that they were the best then they proved it on the court all season long.
