My son & I made the trip to Waco for the last game in the Ferrell Center. 35 years of rebuilding Baylor Basketball into a championship destination. Amazing what Scot Drew AND Kim Mulkey did in transforming Baylor into a basketball powerhouse. And the Bears didn't disappoint the Baylor fans.

What was disappointing was the film hilighting Baylor's rise. Leave it to Baylor leadership to delete Coach Mulkey from the girls championship wins. Shameful but Baylor just can't be bothered with truth.

In the end, the Ferrell will become home to tumbling & volleyball teams but the end was a let down. No confetti, no balloons just "thanks for coming out ". 35 years ended with a thud.

It was quite strange overall that there wasn't any sort of ceremony regarding the end.

But deleting Mulkey was pathetic. They showed the wins and didn't show the coach. It's so petty and sad. They should be embarrassed.

Now, here's hoping Foster is accessible by game day. It isn't close today.

Agree with all those comments. I really thought there would be more ceremony and looking back involved than there was. Given the opponent, of the time of year, and the fact that students are not in town, the crowd was pretty darn good.

Doing things like omitting Mulkey from those clips and taking down pics of the Briles championship teams really beg the question of whether there are any adults in the room. Shouldn't the institution be above that and show a little more class?

Maybe Baylor wants everyone to sign up for their streaming service to watch the documentary they created for the occasion. Hopefully that film does not consign Mulkey to the memory hole of people to be forgotten.

Historian I hope you are correct. I personally won't be signing up or donating my money for the answer. I love Baylor buy this current administration leaves me not trusting their choices. My church is needing more education space so I will give my money there. But thanks for giving me hope.

I don't know what they showed at the game, but the full film gives credit to Kim. It also has Sonja Hogg. Kim was the only coach, if memory serves, with no interview. But before we start throwing out "petty" and other descriptions to describe the BU leadership in this topic…consider that an invitation was proffered for an interview but was declined. Plenty of "petty" on both sides. It's really sad all around

Definitely sad. Credit should be given to Mulkey, for sure. She built the program. But she declined the invitation to interview. The word "Baylor" will never again be uttered by her in public, nor will she ever again set foot on campus. That's just how she rolls. Baylor could unveil her statue and rename the court (or whatever) for her, and she would not modify the scorched earth policy. Not that Baylor will properly recognize her.

Wonder how she will refer to the team if the two teams meet in the NCAAs this year? It is certainly possible.......and might be the target of the committee to generate interest.

I expect that she will refer to Baylor as "the team" or "the opponent" in the same vein as Bill Parcells referred to Terrell Owens as "the player."

It was blatantly an ad for the streaming service, which my 12 year old called out on the spot.

The fact they went that way with it instead of a real ceremony displays everything wrong with our AD. We all paid to be there, in person, and went to close out the building. His response? Spend more money to watch something online just like if you didn't show up at all!

Closing out Floyd Casey is a great memory. Closing out Ferrell was a dud.

Of course you all know who is responsible for such a disrespectful and non-ceremonial dud, right? The Ferrel Center simply is not his jewel.....the new arena is.

Rhoades IS the problem with Baylor Athletics. You all should have snapped to that years ago.

Basically, athletics became all about money at Baylor when Woke Linda hired Rhoades and he arrived and "restructured" (err gutted) the athletic department leaders because they didn't cater to his ego and the new train. All of his career success(es) have been described as an "excellent fundraiser", so none of this should have been surprising. And, he has never BUILT nationally ranked sports at any of his AD stops....he's only diminished any he was fortunate to inherit. Look it up. NO FAN BASE has ever been sad to see him go.

Quickly, all foundation/fan loyalty benefits from years/decades of giving were all but eliminated under Rhoades and his new money generating schemes. Loyalty and longevity does not matter anymore. The biggest check wins his heart.

At Baylor thus far Rhoades has:
  • Dismantled a perennial Top 5 nationally ranked and multi-year BigXII winner Baylor Equestrian program by running the HC off. Too much of a cost center
  • Destroyed a perennial national ranked Baseball program by running the HC off. Too much of a cost center.
  • Baylor Tennis' nation notoriety soon evaporated under Rhoades as well, as he drove Baylor Tennis's HC off to another program. too much of a cost center.
  • And of course, dismantled a power house true "blue blood" WBB program by running off multi-national championship, NCAA HOF, and Baylor's most winningest coach in it's history in Coach Kim Mulkey. And why? Well, no one can be bigger than and upstage Mack Rhoades.....no one.

And as for football, well plenty of brain farts there that everyone sees now. And believe nothing that Aranda says.....Baylor football doesn't play the NIL game because of Rhoades....period. He controls everything football.

When Rhoades starts impacting the MBB program and Coach Drew, maybe then peeps you'll start believing us who see it and know. Trust us, sadly it is coming.....

Besides other factual errors, there is one glaring error that is much more revealing about ZachTay than Rhoades. President Livingstone ("woke Linda" is such a stupid characterization) did not hire Rhoades. He was hired a year before Livingstone became president. Come back, ZachTay, if you ever have anything worth reading. Doubtful.

And since we're fact checking that terrible post I'll pile on .

UH football was languishing until he hired Herman.

Same with basketball until he hired Sampson.

And you better hope Queen Mulkey doesn't read your post. She isn't in the 'NCAA HOF' since that doesn't exist.

And the AD doesn't control who gets what in NIL. Drew does it different than Aranda. Aranda beloved in everyone getting same amount while Drew paid 4 and 5 stars more.

Neither Briles nor Mulkey may have agreed to be featured in any Baylor presentations. NIL would definitely apply to those two.

I doubt the money issue was one. More likely the risk that using their name or likeness without their permission might violate any agreements, nda's that may or may not exist between them and Baylor. In short, lawyers said don't.

It's kind of easy to beat up on the Athletic Director for all manner of things. He has managed to keep us out of scandals which enveloped his two predecessors, so it could be worse...
In my view Jack Patterson did as much or more as Athletic Director at Baylor than any AD as achieved anywhere. His successor, Bill Menefee, was as good a guy as you will find. What abilities, values did these gentlemen bring to the job that we should look for in a director? One thing I notice, is both men were successful coaches before taking on the AD role. Not every good coach would make a good athletic director, but perhaps that on-the-field or courtside experience might provide insights into the challenges our present and future coaches face.

We were talking about a promo video that showed Mulkey's teams celebrating national titles on the court after their wins but no shots with Mulkey in them. There's a 0% chance Baylor can't show those shots that do include Mulkey. It was a conscious decision that was made out of pettiness.

I get it if she declined an interview. That's fine.

Krieg and TWD, I think what I was trying to say is that, perhaps, and in not a very artful way, Briles and Mulkey asked not to be shown on any Baylor productions. We could be honoring their requests. Just a thought. Baylor usually tries to stay above board on these things.

I seriously doubt it.

Why on earth would Briles or Mulkey say the following: "If you ever show videos, photos, or representations of my national championship teams, please eliminate me from those."

Nondisparagement clauses are typical But this is basically the opposite. Almost certainly Baylor being petty.

Make sure you study the definition of "dismantled". Because your obvious smart ass attempt to criticize me (as you do to many on this site) really isn't that at all.

I see you've chosen to double down on what was -- and is being almost universally acknowledged as -- a silly, emotional, reactionary and fact-free rant. Good on ya, mate.

At its foundation, this is a fan opinion board. Sorry you don't get that.

The beauty of this opinion site is that I don't have to clutter my experience with your targeting of others with differing viewpoints. Bye....<Ignore>. And I suggest you <Ignore> me as well to reduce your mental anguish caused by my differing viewpoints.

p.s. Last bit of help is: "Dismantled" is a past tense word.

Credit should be given to Mulkey, for sure. She built the program. But she declined the invitation to interview.

Where did you get this info? Are you sure its 100% fact?

I didn't witness it firsthand, so I can't be 100 percent, since a public statement hasn't been made. But my understanding is that the invitation was either declined or not acknowledged. However, the former coach does have a history of scorching the earth.

By no means am I suggesting that Baylor is faultless on this, or other issues that have been discussed here.

I can understand a previous coach electing to not be interviewed for a current PR video but Coach Mulkey is omitted from the shots & video of those teams winning national championships. She was there and lead those teams. Just as Coach Briles was there leading as well. To omit them is disgraceful, petty, & wrong.

I love it when people get flamed for a bad post and then double down with "this is a fan opinion board. I'm allowed to have an opinion."

As if that immunizes them from being told that their opinion is illogical. It reminds me of the scene in "Talladega Nights" where Ricky Bobby says "with all due respect," and expects that it will exempt him from the consequences of anything he says after that point.

That's definitely a popular opinion right now in a lot of areas. Free speech is a thing, but so are consequences of that speech. You aren't going to prison for saying it, but you might lose some business or votes.
