Barclays Center construction costs were $845 million excluding land and some other non-construction related costs: $524 million for the actual construction of the arena; $70 million for the Transit Connection; $19 million for site work around the arena; $109 million for architecture and engineering; $45 million for development management (paid to Forest City Ratner), $2 million for legal fees. (Of note, the architecture and engineering cost for Barclays is more than half of what we paid for our entire arena)

The point is, there is a big difference between a $214 million arena and a $800 million+ arena as far as amenities and overall experience go. We have just about what I would expect with the price tag in the current construction market.

The Foster Pavilion would be incredible for a WWE event.
Waco will host some concerts and High School basketball tournaments at the Foster.

The new arena in OKC is going to be $900MM plus change.

NBA arenas are a different level. Club seating/ suites etc.

Moody Center cost $375 million and it is very pro-style. I didn't mean that we needed to rebuild Barclay Center, but just figured that there would be a more pro-esque feel for $214 million.

I was on one of the focus groups back in 2016 before the scandal hit when the arena was being discussed and I know several of us including me did not want an industrial feeling NBA feeling arena.

I wanted a rustic old style fieldhouse feeling inside. Retro...Think 'Hoosiers'

The pavilion is fantastic! Went to the women's game against Texas in Moody last week and no question, the Foster is a much better basketball facility. Way better atmosphere at Baylor. Could really feel the energy in the building. Makes me proud to be a Bear fan!

I hear what you are saying and it appears you got what you wanted. The question is why? Have there been no advances in basketball facility design since the 1920's? Was it not possible to simultaneously accommodate game energy, fan convenience and TV production? Without trying to be argumentative, I'm just wondering what lead people to the Foster design choices.

First game at new arena tonight and I loved it! Just about every complaint I heard from opening night was a non-issue for me. Perfect size imo. Great vantage points. And most importantly, the place gets LOUD!

There was a tweet that showed Utah State's arena reaching 132.9 db the other night during their upset of Colorado State, but I'm not sure the integrity of that reading. Seems insanely loud, but that's a crazy loud venue, so I guess it's possible.

Construction costs in NYC are going to be a lot higher than Waco. Wages, materials, taxes, rent, it's all relative to the area. At all times it's going to cost more to build in NYC than Waco, even without the price of the land.

Construction costs in NYC are going to be a lot higher than Waco. Wages, materials, taxes, rent, it's all relative to the area. At all times it's going to cost more to build in NYC than Waco, even without the price of the land.
It was also built about 12 years ago. That exact same building would probably cost well over $1.1 billion today just for the construction costs, possibly pushing $1.5 billion. The point is that arena is in an entire different galaxy than Foster.

If BU wants it loud, and at key times, they will incorporate a decibel meter into the scoreboards on each end. Fans will get loud just trying to achieve certain numbers.
