Bad cameral angle is bad. Did no-one think of this during the planning phase?

It was better for the women's game. They zoomed in more and it didn't feel like you were watching from the moon.

It was still very high and at a unique angle. But it wasn't as jarring.

Knew something had to happen. Why was that dude posting "nothing could be done" when it was very clear they would have to adjust something. Hopefully it continues to improve or they create a makeshift space even if that have to spend significant money to correct.

The arena was going to be known by cbb fans everywhere specifically for the worst view in all of cbb. Last night was the worst I've ever seen, way worse than Ok state or Duke.

Guess it's just something we're going to have to get used to. There appears to otherwise be a lot of awesome regarding Foster Pavilion - I just wish they would've gotten this part right as well.

That may work for the women's game. But the men's game is above the rim, so the very high angle ruins the watching experience. I couldn't tell a Missi alley-oop dunk from a Grimes layup. The "spectacularness" of it just couldn't be appreciated. The vast majority of people who watch Baylor basketball watch it on tv. They need to fix this, and fix it real soon.

The camera platform is at the very top of the arena. Not likely that anything can be done this year. To get a better angle they would probably have to rearrange some seats.

The cameras appear to be considerably higher than they need to be. It looks like they could be lowered by several feet which would improve the angle. That is, unless those large objects I think are cameras are really lights or something else.

You're probably right, so they need to rearrange them. There are consequences for bad decisions. They should've thought of this and/or tested it out somehow before the first game.

Thought the camera angle was interesting. I liked it as far as being able to see spacing on the floor. That was interesting. I didn't like not being able to see the arc of the shots that were taken.

Takes some getting used to but wasn't terrible for me

Obviously not. Planning does not appear to be the forte of the athletic department.

It would not surprise me in the least if major networks outright refuse to air Baylor basketball due to the cameras. That's how bad it is. The only rational solution is to close up shop and go back to the Ferrell Center until the issue is fixed.

From the view shown in the above picture, the camera platform is above the center seating section in the upper deck. It needs to be in the center section of the middle deck just in front of what appears to be the concession stand.

If the women could have alley-ooped last night, you would not have missed anything compared to the men. The view was zoomed in a little more in the women's game, but respectfully, I find nothing to support your comment from watching the women last night.

Yep, you can see from that photo that the cameras can potentially be placed in a better position, but it would require the removal of some seats. Whether they're willing to do that or not is the question.

I'm confused by your comment - since there were no alley-oops in the women's game that you watched, how by NOT seeing something can you tell that I wouldn't have missed anything about it?

Zooming in will fix one of the issues, but it still doesn't fix the issue with the angle. At too steep of angle, it's harder to appreciate verticality. If the game was all about spacing, passing, shots and layups, then maybe the angle would be ok. But the "awesomeness" and athleticism of the "above the rim" game that the men play will be obscured to a good degree.

Some are defending the angles and saying it is a non-issue. When watching the men's game the other night, both my son and I spoke afterwards and complained to each other. This is not just some made up issue and I also just think it is something we will live with. The intent of the stadium is to allow a great game experience. It would have been nice to have a great TV experience, too and while it isn't awful, you does detract from the TV game experience.

The TV broadcast is how the vast majority of the country (world) is going to experience our new basketball venue. It simply has to be fixed.

If you look closely in the picture that Historian posted, you can see the two auxillary cameras that are on the lower level on each corner. The one on the right shows the cameraman in a gold shirt. The other end of the court shows the other camera. Using those two cameras more effectively throughout the game would provide a much better production value. There were some shots during the game using those cameras (mostly replays) that were great. Hopefully the production meetings from the first two games will lead to more effective use and coordination of all three cameras.

They didn't optimize the arena for fan comfort to optimize noise and fan proximity to the court, which are believed to enhance winning. This hypothesis will be proved or debunked only after several years results are in.

But, in doing so, they failed to optimize for TV viewing which is where the money comes from. That the money comes from TV needs no proof.

Guys,

We are going to be in the Foster for the next 30-40 years. Stadium kinks and shortcomings will eventually get worked out.
I still think its very important for our fans to post their legit gripes so that management can address these shortcomings. I can't imagine that they won't eventually put some restrooms on the 2nd level.

These threads are probably why I'm not going to go to the Foster Pavilion until next season when a lot of the kinks are worked out.
I had a feeling this would happen by moving into a stadium that is only 75% complete.
FTR I have no problem with the move in the middle of the season. The seniors deserve to play in the new arena.

People claiming there is nothing wrong with the TV view are either blind or in denial.

Just stepping outside the Baylor bubble and observing across normal social media accounts of avid college basketball fans (not the trolls) as well as basketball media, the positive reception to the beauty of Foster was almost universal. The only negative (no, the size thing is mainly trolls) consistently questioned was the camera angles/view of play. These were comments from reasonably rational, unbiased people with no ties to Baylor.

It's an issue, no matter how much anyone wants to downplay it. I'm not a TV camera guy or production guy so I have no idea how it can be fixed in its current state. I don't know if it was the production team, cameras or whatever and don't pretend to know. I do know they figured something out for the women's game because it was definitely not viewed in as much of an extreme angle as the night before, but still not where I hope we will eventually get. I admit, I was spoiled with Ferrell because I always felt like it provided one of the best basketball angles of any arena around the country. I realize I need to accept change, just not THAT extreme of a change. I'm confident they'll figure out a way to fix this, whether it's this season or next.

One of the positives of the Ferrell Center was the camera angle. Just watch a past game, and you'll see what I mean. The game of basketball allows fans to get to "know" players since they're not wearing helmets and other protective gear. IMHO, the camera angle is a huge nuance to college basketball. I hope BU makes an adjustment.

If watching the game was your only priority -- be it in person or on TV -- the Ferrell Center was a good venue. Because of its bowl setup, there weren't many bad seats in the house and the gradual angle of the seats' incline made for elite TV viewing.

There were downsides from an atmosphere standpoint, certainly. It was dark, cavernous, noise-suppressing and lacking in modern bells an whistles. But I aways enjoyed watching games there.

I'm sure I'll enjoy Foster as well when I get a chance to go. But the TV angle is going to take some serious getting used to. It was better for the women's game. I can probably adjust to that over time. But I'll never like it as much.

Some say seats will have to be removed to fix this problem. Maybe a temporary solution would be to have those sitting in those seats to hold cameras until a better solution is enacted??

It certainly is. They checked off the "make sure the TV audience has a reasonable view" box when they constructed their place. We didn't.
